The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 160

Though Lorraine refused to be the center of attention, she somehow ended up in that position.

Their group had ordered some drinks. The more outgoing colleagues had left, and only a few stayed behind, including Sarah and Lorraine's group.

Sarah kept eyeing Lorraine, unable to understand what on earth she had done to make me publicly acknowledge our relationship.

Sophie noticed Sarah's subtle glances and leaned over to Lorraine. She whispered, "She keeps staring at you. Who knows what nasty idea she's cooking up?"

"She doesn't have the guts to do that," Lorraine replied as she gave Sophie reassuring pats. She glanced at Sarah, and when their eyes met, Sarah quickly looked away.

Instead of having any alcohol, Lorraine ordered a small glass of juice. Just as she was about to finish it, I texted her and asked, "Where are you?"

Lorraine frowned as if she had not expected me to contact her. "Having dinner with colleagues," she replied.

"Location." My tone sounded displeased.

Lorraine thought of her earlier stance in the office and tried to put herself in my shoes. She realized her reaction might've been a little disheartening, so she didn't hesitate to share her location and added, "I can head home on my own. I didn't drink."

I didn't respond further. Feeling slightly disappointed, Lorraine put down her phone and stared off into the distance lost in thought.

Back at Joplin Group, Murphy wore a look of resentment as he was forced to work overtime.

"Why are you staring at me like that? It's just a few minutes of overtime," I snapped.

Murphy laughed somewhat bitterly. He had lost count of how much overtime he had clocked this month, and while the pay was decent, he really needed some rest.

"Ms. Sommerton said there's no need to pick her up," he reminded me.

"So, you're saying I don't have to pick her up just because she said so? It's no wonder that you don't have a girlfriend," I mocked, shooting him a teasing glance.

Murphy faltered. "That's uncalled for, Mr. Joplin." It wasn't like he couldn't get one; he just hadn't thought about settling down yet.

I chuckled at his helpless expression. "I'll introduce you to someone when there's a chance. For now, just focus on your job."
