Yvonne stood at the entrance of the courthouse, fuming as if she had been holding back her anger for a very long time.
I said, "I'm really curious to see what you get up to when you're backed into a corner." I urged Murphy to drive off. I was disgusted to even spend one more second looking at her.
When I arrived home, the two boys had already washed up and were preparing to head to school.
"They won't be going to school today." I planned on transferring them to another school.
"Why?" Xavier realized something was off and held my hand. "Who won?"
I had mentioned the custody case to him that day. I bent down and smiled at him. "Who do you hope will win?"
"Mommy," Xavier replied without any hesitation. Although I expected this, it still hurt hearing him saying it out loud.
I took a deep breath and forced myself to stay calm.
"What if I won?"
"Then, I'll have to look for Mommy." Xavier was insistent on this. No matter what the outcome was, he was going to follow Yvonne.
I held him by his shoulders, hoping he would understand what I was doing for him. "I'm taking you back only so that you'll be able to grow up healthy and happy."
"I'm doing well with Mommy too." He pried my hand off as a thought came to him. "If you're only worried about Mr. Dawson, just get him fired."
No matter what I said, Xavier was not willing to be with me.
I gradually lost my patience. I held his arm and said rather harshly, "I've changed schools for you. You have no say in this."
"Cole," Xavier suddenly looked up at me and called me by my name. He said firmly, "You can't control me."
"I'm your father. Why can't I?"
Xavier had quite the temper, but he could not go on like this.
"I'm Mommy's son. You've never once raised me. What right do you have to interfere in my life?" Xavier said loathingly.
