Grandma could immediately hear my unhappiness. She sat opposite me and said, "He's your brother. Are you planning to let him stay out alone for the rest of his life?"
"Don't you have enough grandchildren to look after already?" Why did she insist on letting Chris into the family? As if my father did not have any other illegitimate children. Why Chris?
"Whether it be age, education, or work experience, Chris and I are almost the same. Grandma, don't bother insisting that you don't have any ulterior motives in getting him back."
Hayden was not around, and I was slowly losing control. The feeling of losing power was not a good one. I even started to suspect that the fall of Joplin Group had something to do with her.
She was the queen. If the main power was not in her hand, she was willing to bring down the entire empire.
Grandma looked at me quietly.
"Grandma, your new grandson must be really obedient."
She harrumphed and questioned, "Are you planning to come at me just for some outsider?"
"I wouldn't dare to, but I can assure you that as long as I'm alive, Chris can only dream of entering our family."
The Joplin family would not accept any illegitimate child.
Grandma was pissed off, but I made sure the doctor had arrived before I left.
Lorraine looked at me, feeling glum. She held her tongue back.
"What do you want to ask?" I asked her.
"You're clearly worried about your grandmother. Why were you so harsh with her?"
She knew I did not mean what I said and that I was just worried that Chris and his mother would take advantage of Mom.
She added, "You can get your mother to live with us."
Grandma would surely care about me. She would not be so naive to hand over all the inheritance to Chris.
"As you can see, my father likes him." Once Grandma was gone, my father would inherit all the family's fortune.
