Since Fabian had said all that, there was no need for me to hold back anymore. I said, "Obviously, I hope that we can work together, but doesn't that all depend on the situation?"
I had shown him more than enough respect. "I'm afraid your type of business is something I can't handle, Mr. Zahn."
"Why can't you handle it?" Fabian clapped his hands, and several wait staff immediately entered. Each of them was carrying a tray that was covered with cloth. With a glance from him, they unveiled the contents of the trays.
"What's this?" I asked.
There were bags of pills on the trays, and a bad feeling started to creep up on me.
East Habor was a border area that was connected to northern Myor. It was a place where illegal businesses were entirely possible, as long they were careful enough.
Was Fabian really involved in something like this?
I quickly took a step back and maintained some distance between us.
Fabian smiled in exasperation at my actions. "Why are you so anxious? I'm not going to do anything to you."
He placed a hand on my shoulder, and I could feel the pressure that was coming from him.
He said, "Don't worry. I won't harm you, and these aren't anything harmful either."
I watched him pick up one of the packages and tear it open. "These are just regular health supplements. They're not anything illegal."
They weren't?
I was still a little skeptical. Fabian simply handed me two packages. "You can take these and test them."
He lit up a cigarette and said in a somewhat raspy voice, "I admit that I had a shady period of time in my life, but you don't have to worry. I definitely won't do anything illegal. Other people might not value their lives, but I do."
His assurances finally put my mind at ease a bit.
