I said, "Hayden, have you heard Murphy's accounts of what happened then? We could've died if I hadn't compromised."

I looked up at him with a slightly frosty look. "Hayden, I understand how you feel, but you have to understand me too. Xavier almost died there."

Yvonne's face lit up in excitement as she looked over some competitions.

She said, "Xavier, this is the competition I've picked for you. With your abilities, you'll definitely shine."

"Mommy, does that mean I'm not going to school?" Xavier looked at Yvonne curiously. He was supposed to be in school that day. Jonas already called earlier and said that he would be waiting for Xavier there.

"Xavier, we're not going to school today," Yvonne said.

She patted him on the head. "I'm bringing you to join some competitions. You won't need to go to school anymore with those competitions. You'll become the best of the best."

The look of ambition on her face was clear.

Xavier saw how excited she seemed and didn't want to disappoint her, so he agreed.

At the competition site, most of the participants were middle schoolers. The youngest among them was in sixth grade. Xavier was the only one who was so young.

"Who's this? Why is he even here?"

"Why is such a young kid in this competition?"

Most of the participants had been learning how to code for years with the aim of becoming a programmer. They were surrounded by peers their own age. It was the first time they saw someone as young as Xavier enter.

"I came here to compete," Xavier declared as he lifted his head proudly.

"You're here to compete? Are you joking?" One of the participants looked at him skeptically.
