The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 289

Chris had a flattering smile on his face as he looked at me. "Cole, I brought these for Xavier. What do you think?"

I looked at the toys he brought over. Xavier did seem to like them.

In the end, he was still a child. Yvonne was strict with him, so he probably never had the time to play with these things.

"Cole, Xavier's pretty amazing. He even became a big celebrity," Chris remarked.

He had a wide grin on his face, making it look like he was more excited than anyone else in the Joplin family about this.

"Would you ever have gotten the chance to be the general manager if Xavier wasn't a celebrity?" I retorted.

Chris' expression changed dramatically. Even his fingers started to tremble. "Cole, what do you mean by that?"

"Chris, don't think I don't know what you're up to," I replied.

Chris was here to find out whether Xavier would stay in the entertainment industry.

"Don't worry. Xavier enjoys his job, so I won't make him quit," I said.

Xavier's eyes widened when he heard what I said.

I wouldn't make him leave the entertainment industry? He wondered if that was true.

"I'll also do as I said and start a company of my own. So, don't worry, I won't return to Joplin Group either. You can comfortably hold on to the general manager position, but let me remind you of one thing…"

I leaned in closer and whispered into his ears, "You'd better prepare yourself mentally. The problems with Joplin Group aren't as simple to deal with as you think."

I deliberately put on a pleased expression as I patted him on the shoulder. "Murphy, see him out."

Murphy had been standing by the door and entered when he heard my words.

Chris stood rooted on the spot as he stared at me.

"Just leave. There's nothing here that's worth your time," I said.

Chris' expression darkened at my remark.
