"We can't." Yvonne lowered her head helplessly. She wanted to take the legal route, but they did not have evidence. "You didn't give them money. You can't prove that we've already settled with them."
"I have a voice recording."
I played the recording of the conversation I had with Kayson's parents. However, after listening, it didn't sound like they were extorting from me. They were smart. They knew what to say to not show their true purposes.
"What should we do?"
"We'll apologize and send out a statement that it was a children's fight that accidentally escalated."
I took my phone out, prepared to film him. "Xavier, you should apologize to Kayson."
"Why?" Xavier looked perplexed. He had done nothing wrong.
At that moment, Jonas had run to a computer. With a few clicks, he found the source post.
"They're the ones who have been spreading the rumors about Xavier," Jonas told me.
When I saw which media company it was, I immediately got Murphy to deal with them. "Do it properly and cleanly."
Some things were meant to be handled discreetly.
Xavier stood there indignantly and stubbornly. He fumed. "I didn't do anything wrong. He was the one who mocked me first. I don't want to apologize."
An idea suddenly came to him. "There should be surveillance footage. We can show that."
"We've found it. It's useless."
Kayson had been standing in a blind spot, and the cameras didn't record audio. It just recorded Xavier slapping him. The surveillance footage was a dead end.
Xavier bit his lip, his eyes reddening. He looked aggrieved as he said, "I don't want to take the blame. He was the one who started it."
"What did he say to you?" I asked Xavier. "If it's really terrible, I'll help you clear your name."
"Are you for real?" Xavier asked doubtfully. He bit his lip, seemingly suspicious about how true my words were.
