Chad had never been hit like that before, and certainly not by Gerald.
"Consider yourself lucky I hit you so lightly. Go apologize to Lorraine right now. Make sure she's satisfied with it," Gerald said as he turned to me.
"Where's Lorraine?" he asked.
"Have you finally made up your mind?" I mocked.
At least Gerald seemed to have some sense. I looked at Chad and warned, "Think carefully about what you're going to say. If Lorraine isn't satisfied, then don't expect me to give you what you want."
Chad bit his lip. His boiling rage was obvious.
He wouldn't be humiliating himself like this if he didn't need the money.
After half an hour, I brought Gerald to the front of the ward.
"She can't take any more stress. Seeing you might upset her again, so wait here," I told them.
Gerald frowned at my words. "What's the meaning of this? You made us come here just to make us wait outside?"
"Can't you even wait?" I asked.
It seemed like he wasn't as concerned about Sam as he claimed to be.
Gerald held back his anger and forced out a smile. "We can wait."
He pulled Chad over to some chairs outside the ward. One of them was slouched in his seat while the other had a stone-cold look on his face as he occasionally glanced at the door.
I knew what they were waiting for. They were waiting for Lorraine to walk out.
Lorraine was softhearted and definitely could not bear to see them like this. I wouldn't have cared about an apology from them if it weren't for the fact that they raised Lorraine.
This could be considered as compensation to Lorraine. After this, they would have nothing to do with each other.
When I entered the ward, Lorraine had just finished eating.
Mom looked at me with concern. "You look like you've lost weight these past few days. Have you eaten yet?"
She glanced at the leftovers in the lunchbox and felt a bit awkward. "I'll make you something fresh."
