The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 61

I was a little surprised. The old homeless guy really knew how to get something out of the situation. If that was the case, it meant that Xavier was in there.

"How much do you want?"

The homeless guy cocked his head, but I just couldn't wait anymore. I shoved him out of the way and charged inside. "Talk to my assistant about it."

I had to see Xavier now. I kicked down the door, which wasn't sturdy, to begin with. The old man started screaming when he heard the loud crash. "M-My house!"

His ear-piercing screams rang in my ears, which infuriated me greatly. There were three rooms, and I searched each of them. As expected, I found Xavier in the last room. He was leaning against the wall, and he was completely drenched.

"Xavier?"

How did he end up like this? Was he really just playing? Was it possible that Jared abused Xavier?

I inspected him as I walked toward him. There were no signs of injury. I guessed that Jared wouldn't have had the guts to do it either. He wouldn't abuse a kid outside.

A blinding ray of sunshine shone on Xavier's face. His eyebrows furrowed as he mumbled, "Jared."

I felt as if I had been struck by thunder. I was rooted to the spot as I stared at Xavier, who was unconscious.

"Cole." Lorraine put her hand on my arm. She didn't have to say anything. I felt much better from her gesture alone.

"It's okay. What matters is that he's safe." Xavier might've uttered someone else's name and had been waiting for another person to save him, but it didn't matter.

I was heartbroken as I brushed away Xavier's hair from his forehead. All I hoped was that he would recover sooner and tell me the truth.

The hospital was just too far away from the hotel. So, I had to call a private doctor. As for the people who helped in searching for Xavier, I asked my assistant to run the numbers and waive the hotel charges for them.

Xavier might not have said anything unpleasant when he saw me upon waking up, but he did purse his lips. Obviously, he wasn't happy.
