I turned around and opened the door. I was about to enter Xavier's ward when Jared suddenly gripped my wrist. "Yvonne can't live without Xavier."
His face was red with rage. It looked like he hadn't slept for a whole week.
"Yeah. So?"
"We'll split up."
Yvonne suddenly whipped her head up. She was more surprised than I was.
"Are you leaving me?" It seemed like what Jared said devastated her. She staggered and withdrew her hand from Jared.
"How could you say something like that?" Yvonne gave up her perfect family and lost a son for Jared's sake, yet he wasn't even a little perturbed when he said he wanted to divorce her.
"Well, what do you want me to do, then? Am I supposed to do nothing while you and Xavier are forced to part ways?" Jared was hysterical. He looked like he was in so much sorrow as his face contorted with anguish.
"B-But…"
I stood aside with my arms crossed. I really should savor every second. After all, these two put the best actors and actresses to shame.
…
Jonas snuck into Xavier's ward after I left. He was petite, so nobody saw him.
"What were you doing in that place, Xavier?" They had once talked about the places they would hide if they were playing a game of hide-and-seek. Jonas remembered Jared saying that he would go to that place if it was up to him.
"That's none of your business." Xavier might be wilful and naive, but he knew enough not to tell Jonas the truth.
Jared was the one who told Xavier that they were playing a game of hide-and-seek. He even told Xavier that he was going to bring me over to play with them.
"I didn't plan to go in there." Xavier wanted to hide behind the shack, but the old man saw him. Then, he immediately pulled Xavier into the shack.
"Why didn't you call for help?"
"I lost my watch." Xavier simply didn't have the contact number. "But I believed that Jared would come to save me."
As far as Xavier was concerned, Jared was like a superhero who could do anything. Jared had always shown up every time Xavier was in danger.
"You say that, but Daddy was the one who saved you this time." Jonas raised his head, wearing a naive expression.
"You even called out Jared's name when you came out." Jonas knew that I wasn't happy about it.
"Really?" Xavier was afraid of the fact that I hated him. Jared might be nice to him, but Jared wasn't his dad when all was said and done.
With that said, Xavier didn't understand why I didn't keep him by my side if I didn't hate him.
"You should apologize to Daddy." Jonas was aware that Xavier didn't mean to make me feel bad. He held Xavier's hand and said, "It's not hard to coax Daddy."
Xavier's eyes flickered. For a moment there, he was moved. However, it all went away once he was worried that someone behind the door might hear him.
Then, Xavier shook off Jonas' hand. "Why should I apologize to him?" He had no intention of apologizing to someone who had abandoned him.
"But Daddy saved you."
