The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 65

The moment Grandma glared at me, I felt a little helpless. She was too old to handle any emotional distress.

"I don't feel safe leaving Xavier with her."

"What's there to worry about? She's his mother. What could she do to him?" Grandma patted Yvonne's hand and turned around to command me, "You'd better forget about it. A kid needs his mother."

If Grandma hadn't been holding herself back, I genuinely wondered if she would've asked me to place Jonas under Yvonne's care as well.

Half an hour later, I looked at Yvonne, whose eyes had turned red from all the crying. I sneered, "Impressive."

I couldn't help but clap sarcastically. "You knew to come here to get support from my grandmother."

Yvonne seemingly didn't hear my sarcastic remarks. She suddenly turned around, and her eyes were filled with pleas. "I seriously can't live without Xavier, Cole. You have Jonas. Will you please leave Xavier with me?"

Yvonne looked like a dog that had been going on the street and groveling at everyone. She seemed both pitiable and detestable.

I wished I could push her away, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. "What happened last time crossed the line."

I had no idea what Jared did for Xavier to admire him this much, but I was very certain that he had ulterior motives.

"I swear to you, Cole. We'll raise Xavier well and properly. Can you—"

"No." I interrupted her without any hesitation. Did she think we were discussing a business deal? What was with all the negotiations?

"I'll see you in court a week later."

Xavier was dragged to the courthouse entrance, and he stared at me viciously. He was just a little boy, and he couldn't exactly give anyone a mean look. However, he kept glaring at me, looking a little stubborn and adorable.

Yvonne and I entered the courthouse one after another. Xavier didn't bat an eye at me the whole time. Jonas was worried that I would feel awful, so he tugged at my sleeves gently. "I've got your back, Daddy."
