Seeing Wayne and Melody sighing heavily, their expressions a mix of anger and sorrow, Sirius said coldly, "Mr. Greene Senior, you really don't have to worry about this. If they want to stir up trouble, let them. As long as they can bear the consequences, it's fine."
Wayne sighed and said, "They're all my fellow villagers, and some of them are even my distant relatives. So, how did things come to this? Sirius, you heard what they said. Not only do they want Nolan to pay off their debts, but they also demand an additional one million in cash for each of them.
"That is simply outrageous. What's worse, they know full well Nolan had their best interests at heart from the beginning, but now they're saying that if he doesn't comply, they'll demand 60% of his entire fortune. Even bandits aren't this heartless!
"And they threatened to rally the whole village to file complaints and expose everything online so that everyone would point their fingers and curse at Nolan. Have you ever met people as unreasonable as them?"
Sirius' expression turned icy. "Mr. Greene Senior, these people have lost all sense of morality. Maybe a few of them still have a conscience, but most of them can't tell right from wrong. To them, they were living just fine until Mr. Greene came along and caused their current predicament.
"But they've forgotten from the start that Mr. Greene doesn't owe them anything. In fact, he's done them a favor. The ones who put them in this situation were never Mr. Greene, but those scammers. At the end of the day, they still think Mr. Greene is a pushover.
"They think he won't dare to do anything to them because, as you said, they're your fellow villagers and distant relatives. If they were strangers, they probably wouldn't dare to act so brazenly."
"You're absolutely right," Wayne said through clenched teeth. "But this time, Nolan hasn't done anything wrong, so I definitely won't let him give in to their demands."
Sirius chuckled softly and said, "Mr. Greene, you're overthinking this. Mr. Greene isn't the type to give in to these kinds of demands. He can be kind—so kind that he's generous to a fault, but he will never yield to threats. Just wait. When he returns, he'll handle this matter personally."
However, when Wayne heard that, his expression immediately turned hesitant. He then shook his head and said, "Sirius, can we not tell Nolan about this for now? If it must be said, let me be the one to tell him. He's already busy enough as it is, so I don't want this to add to his troubles.
