The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 639

After returning to Misty Hill, Nolan first went to the cottage where his parents lived, but they weren't there.

"Mr. Greene, should I have someone bring Mr. and Mrs. Greene Senior back? There's a team guarding them at all times, so I'm sure they're fine," said Scarlet.

Nolan nodded and said, "As long as they're safe, it's fine. Let them get some fresh air. The situation with Rio Village must be weighing heavily on them. Even if they don't say it, I can feel it. However, the people of Rio Village must be punished.

"This is the price they have to pay. The fact that I'm not imposing additional punishment is already an act of mercy on my part. But it's highly unlikely they'll feel grateful toward me for that."

Scarlet nodded in agreement. "The villagers probably won't thank you. In fact, they'll likely resent you deeply, even though the consequences they're facing are entirely their own doing and have nothing to do with you, that's not how they'll see it.

"To them, if it weren't for your involvement, their debts wouldn't have come to light. But if they had even a shred of sense, they'd realize that even if you hadn't intervened or withdrawn the profit-sharing businesses, their good days were numbered.

"The corrupt officials embezzling from the Village Enterprise were growing greedier by the day and had long drained the assets dry. So, bankruptcy was just a matter of time."

Nolan nodded and said solemnly, "Those people never had any intention of running the businesses properly. But enough about that. Scarlet, I have a task for you. I want you to handle it personally. No, actually, I'll handle it myself.

"Find Morgan Blair. Locate his current address and inform me immediately once you do. I want to pay him a visit."

Hearing that Nolan wanted to personally seek out Morgan, a glimmer of great interest flashed in Scarlet's eyes.
