“I’ll find you,” Lyra threatened. “I’ll find you and boil you in your own poisons.”
The witch laughed again. “Find me? How? Where? When? You people have been hunting me for decades, and you still have no clue where to find me. Spare your threats for someone of your calibre. Today, I wanted to remind you that I’m still watching. Soon, I’ll make my move. If you thought you won because you got rid of the Rogue King, you were wrong.”
“Is that so?” Lyra asked. “Who is going to be your next target? Whose body are you going to hijack next?”
While asking the questions, Lyra used her telepathic powers to infiltrate Anna’s mind. Since the witch had possessed her, there was a possibility that Lyra could track her down through Anna. If lucky, she could get into the witch’s thoughts and even sense her location. She had a feeling that the witch was Valeria, the leader of the witches that Anna had talked about before.
“You should be grateful that I’m using these puppets,” the witch said. “If I showed you my true form, you would all tremble and wither in front of me.”
“Ah, yes,” Lyra agreed sarcastically. “You are a most powerful witch, blessed with the powers of the heavens and the earth. That’s why you hide from your enemies and would not dare face them yourself.”
“Soon, you’ll see it for yourself,” the witch said, her tone getting more animated. “All werewolves will bow in front of me and beg me to spare their lives. When that day comes, do not say I did not warn you.”
Soon? What did it mean?
Lyra did not like the tone of confidence that the witch had.
Was she expecting to gain some new kind of power? Or, had she finished building her army of corrupted wolves and felt confident that she could overrun the kingdom with them? Maybe she had formulated a new deadly poison the likes of which had never been seen before?
Lyra had thought that the Rogue King was the witch’s biggest and most important ally. But even with him dead and most of the rogues having relocated to Lyra’s pack, she was still making moves against the kingdom. Was she buffing, or was she hiding something that could put the kingdom in real danger?
While probing Anna’s mind, Lyra suddenly came across something foreign with a dark energy. She tried to latch on to it, but became distracted when Anna gasped in pain and fell from her seat. She started thrashing on the floor, then banged her head against the floor.
