Julian got up on his elbows, giving her a puzzled look. “What?”
Lyra pulled on her pants. “I’m rejecting you. I want you to set me free.”
Julian climbed out of bed and faced her. “Forget about it. I don’t accept your rejection.”
Lyra looked at him, her eyes hard and unwavering. “Why not? What exactly do you want from me? You don’t like that I’m your mate, and you are getting mated to someone else. Let me go.”
Julian shook his head. “You are not going anywhere. Your place is here, with me.”
Lyra wanted to scream. He was not making any sense. Could he even hear himself? He did not want a mate as worthless as her. He formalised his engagement to a powerful Alpha’s daughter a few hours ago. So why could he not let her go?
“I don’t want to be here, or with you,” she told him. “I reject you as my mate, as you have rejected me in so many ways. Do me a favour and break this bond once and for all, and I’ll get out of your life.”
“Who said I want you out of my life?” he questioned.
Lyra nodded, feeling ridiculous. “You must think that since I have no background or a powerful pack behind me, I’ll take whatever you throw my way. I did not come so far to be treated like this. You can accept my rejection or not, but either way, I’m leaving.”
“You can try,” he said. “You cannot get away from me. I’m your king, and there’s nowhere you can go where I won’t find you. You do not have my permission to go anywhere. Don’t cross me.”
“What will you do? Kill me?” she challenged him. A bitter smile crossed her lips. “Go ahead. Death might be a great escape from this bullshit.”
“You are not allowed to die either,” he snapped.
Did she really mean that? The thought that she would gladly welcome death just to be apart from him left a sour taste in his mouth. And, funnily, it was not because her death would mean his too. It was the same way the thought of anyone or anything hurting her made him feel.
“Then you can try your best to stop me,” she told him, reaching for her bra. “If you don’t accept my rejection, as long as I’m alive, I’ll want to leave you. I don’t want to be part of your games anymore.”
“Did Crystal say something to you?” Julian asked. “Is that why you are doing this?”
Next, Lyra reached for her shirt. “Why? Am I so clueless and blind that I need your fiancée to say something to me to see the kind of jerk you are? You must think that I have no self respect for myself. But then again, I’m just a slut to you, right? But since you are so insistent on keeping me here, I suppose that says a lot about you. Do you have a weakness for whores?”
“Lyra…”
“Maybe it turns you on thinking about me with other males,” she said. “Is that why you called me here earlier after seeing me with Devon? It turned you on and you just couldn’t wait to get a taste for yourself.”
His jaw clenched so hard he thought he was going to pop a bone. “If you let another male touch you–”
“I’ll do whatever the fuck I want,” she interrupted him, looking him in the eyes fearlessly. “As far as I’m concerned, you are no longer my mate. And don’t even get started on that when you fucked someone else with me right outside your door. If I see a male I want, I’ll do what I want, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
