The Ruthless Lycan King Fell For His Slave Mate novel Chapter 50

“A witch,” Julian replied. “She is behind all of this.”

Lyra looked back at the girl. She looked young and harmless. Was she the owner of the laughter she had heard earlier? But she also realised that the witch had been there all along, watching the two of them make love. She looked away in embarrassment.

Julian peered down at her face and held her by the chin. “Are you okay?”

About just giving some stranger a free show? Yeah, totally. She nodded. There was no use feeling self-conscious. Witches always knew things they had no business knowing.

“I’ll bring her back to the palace, and I’ll find out who is behind this,” Julian told her. “I’ll make her pay for putting you in danger.”

Lyra wondered why the young witch wanted to harm her. Did this have anything to do with whoever gave her the false orders, or was it a coincidence?

When they brought the witch back to the palace, she revealed that her name was Anna. She claimed to have been a werewolf who was captured by witches.

“A werewolf?” Julian questioned, sounding doubtful. “You are a witch.”

“When they captured me, they wanted to use me to make those corrupted wolves,” she revealed. “But it turned out that I have strong magical powers, so they turned me into one of them instead. They allowed me to learn alchemy and poison making, and…that’s how I ended up like this.”

“Why did you attack Lyra?” Julian asked her. “What do you have against her?”

“Nothing,” Anna replied. “I was only following orders. They told me that she needed to die, but nobody told me why. It’s not my job to ask questions, and I cannot defy their orders. If I did not do as they said, they would kill me.”

Lyra frowned. From what Julian had said, Anna was the one who told him that marking her would stabilise her and keep her from descending into madness again. “Then why did you save me?”

“Because after you shifted, I realised you are the Wolf Mother,” she revealed. “Our kind have waited for a Wolf Mother for centuries. I could not harm you, no matter what. I’m a werewolf, after all. The witches only use me for their purposes, and they’ll discard me in the end anyway. Harming you would be like selling my own kind to them.”

“Wolf Mother?” Lyra asked, exchanging a glance with Julian. She expected Julian to find it ridiculous, but the look on his face was serious, as if he found nothing wrong with Anna’s statement. She looked back at Anna. “You are wrong.”

Suggesting that she, Lyra, was the Wolf Mother had to be the joke of the century. The Wolf Mother was a legendary figure among werewolves who rarely appeared.

She was the most powerful of all werewolves, surpassing even Alphas in terms of size and strength. Whenever a Wolf Mother appeared, it signified a blessing from the Moon Goddess.

The Wolf Mother was the leader of all werewolves, able to communicate with everyone regardless of their pack or origin. Her dominance was also unrivalled, having the ability to assert her will on every werewolf she wished.

Since it was not hereditary, no one could tell when or where the Wolf Mother would appear. So far, it had been more than a century since the last one.

“You saw your wolf. Have you ever seen a wolf that big and powerful?” Anna asked her.

Lyra swallowed. No, she hadn’t.

“I’ll offer you a deal,” Anna said, looking at Julian. “If you keep me safe from the witches, I’ll help you gather information about the corrupted wolves.”

Julian snickered. “What makes you think the witches are the only ones you should be wary about? You put my mate in danger. I should behead you where you stand.”

“Where else would you get someone with insider information about what the witches are planning?” Anna asked him. “Besides, I saved her in the end.”

“From the trouble you led her into, you mean?” Julian asked sarcastically.

“I did not have a choice,” she told him.

Julian knew she was right. He had never before come so close to unravelling the workings of the witches. It was by pure luck that this one happened to have been a werewolf. Evidently, from her act of saving Lyra from going insane, her loyalties lay with her own kind.

Julian realised that she needed protection from more than witches. Since he suspected there were werewolves colluding with witches, he could not let them find out about her. He had to keep her safe while he investigated.

Now, who could he trust with that?

Zero.

Damn. Ever since he confined his cousin for being too close to Lyra, their relationship had not been the best. It was a good thing Zero was not the kind to be unreasonable because of a grudge.

…right?

“Alright,” Julian told Anna. “I’ll keep you safe, and you better tell me everything you know. If you try to hide anything or mislead me, I’ll find out and you’ll pay with your life.”
