The Ruthless Lycan King Fell For His Slave Mate novel Chapter 52

While Lyra recovered, Beryl remained at the palace to take care of her. Like she had predicted, the tainted wolves’ DNA caused a lot of havoc in Lyra’s system.

The first few days were hard for Lyra as she battled everything from a high fever to bodily aches and shivers. She also slept restlessly the first few nights, muttering in her sleep and having constant night terrors.

Julian came to see Lyra every day, sometimes twice in a day, without fail. Beryl had never seen her cousin so concerned about anyone before.

When he left after one of his visits after Lyra’s condition had improved a bit, Beryl finally decided to ask Lyra about their relationship. She thought there was something between them, but there was something in the way they interacted that suggested everything was not all rosy.

Also, there was the fact that Julian was now engaged to Crystal, so Beryl wondered whether she had misread everything from the beginning. Julian was showing that he had a gentlemanly side to him, so why on earth would he go for Crystal Black if Lyra was his mate?

“He is very concerned about you,” she said, giving Lyra a smile. “It’s almost as if the two of you are together.”

Lyra’s lips turned up in a small sad smile before shaking her head. Any other day, Beryl would have teased her about it, but seeing the mix of sadness and bitterness in Lyra’s eyes, she let it go.

As for Lyra, she felt horrible that Beryl had been stuck by her side for days, taking care of her. Lyra was grateful for her care, but she knew that Beryl had a busy life and that by staying with her, she was putting everything else on hold.

“What’s been going on around here lately?” Lyra asked, tucking away the unpleasant feelings from thinking about the status of her relationship with Julian. The least she could do was try to give Beryl some good company rather than burden her with her endless troubles.

“Not much,” Beryl said. “I find that the palace can be awfully boring when no sort of event is going on.”

Lyra chuckled. “It sure can.”

“It wouldn’t be boring with you,” Beryl told her. “So hurry up and get on your feet.”

“Yes ma’am,” Lyra replied with a smile. “Have you seen Zero around?”

“A few times,” Beryl said. “Every time we run into each other, he asks about you. Other than that, I don’t know what’s going on with him. He seems…” Beryl tilted her head as she searched for the word. “Not himself.”

“How?” Lyra asked.

“He seems a little moody,” Beryl said. “And trust me, a moody Zero is rare.”

“Oh,” Lyra muttered. She had hoped that Zero and Anna would have gotten together by then, but based on Beryl’s words, it seemed to not be the case. “Maybe that has to do with his mate.”

Beryl’s eyes widened. “Mate? What mate?”

“That witch, Anna, she is his mate. They recognised each other that day Julian brought her to the palace,” she explained.

“Wait, but she is a witch. How can she be his mate?” Beryl asked.

“She was a werewolf first,” Lyra revealed. “She was abducted by witches for use in experiments to make corrupted wolves. When they realised she had strong magic power, they decided to make her one of them.”
