The Ruthless Lycan King Fell For His Slave Mate novel Chapter 56

Julian and Lyra jumped apart, each of them avoiding Asher's eyes. Asher cleared his throat awkwardly. Maybe he should have knocked first.

Julian turned around and went back to his desk. Reaching for a random file, he said, “Take Lyra to see Anna.”

“Got it,” Asher said, then beckoned to Lyra. “Let's go.”

Lyra, with her face red with embarrassment, walked past him and out of the office. Asher led the way to the southern wing of the building, where Lyra had never been before. The wing was eerily empty and silent, as if nobody lived or worked there.

They walked in silence for quite a while before Asher tried to break it. “Feeling good today?”

Lyra gave him a sideways glance, amused at his awkwardness. Even after seeing him with Beryl, it was still amusing to see him be anything other than the Lycan King's icy Beta. “Yes.”

Asher nodded, then rubbed the back of his neck. “I don't mean to meddle, but Julian cares about you, even if it might not seem like it.”

Lyra frowned as she studied him. It was clear that talking about it was making him uncomfortable, and yet he went ahead and said it. Once again, this was something she would not have expected from him. “What do you mean?”

How could he say that Julian cared about her when he knew very well what his own boss was doing? Julian was engaged to the female who had tried to kill her. If he cared about her, wouldn't he have at least punished Crystal for it?

“I can't tell you more,” Asher said. “But everything he is doing is for a reason, and he doesn't mean to make it hard on you.”

Lyra frowned. “What reason?”

“I can't say. Just trust him.”

Just trust him.

Yeah, that was easier said than done. But hearing what Asher said and remembering Julian's words just a few moments ago, she realised there must be more than meets the eye. What was Julian hiding from her? Did it have to do with Crystal?

Deciding to not dwell on Julian and whatever mysterious secrets he was hiding, she asked, “How's it going with you and Beryl?”

Of course, Beryl had told her every detail there was to tell. But she couldn't fight her curiosity about Asher's own reaction.

“Good,” Asher replied, rubbing the back of his neck again. He stole a quick glance at her. “I hope.”

Lyra smiled, understanding his hesitance. He must know that whatever Beryl thought of them, Lyra knew.

“She is happy,” Lyra told him. “Very, actually.”

“She is amazing,” he said.
