The Ruthless Lycan King Fell For His Slave Mate novel Chapter 64

When Lyra heard about Julian cancelling his engagement to Crystal, she felt grateful. After what Crystal had done to Anna, it would have been too much if Julian had still allowed her to stay at the palace and even become the future queen.

She was fully aware of the rumours gathering speed around the palace and outside, about Julian choosing her over Crystal. How she wished that were true. Him cancelling his engagement had nothing to do with her. It just turned out he had some conscience and would not marry someone who tried to harm his cousin's mate.

But the rumours only kept growing, and she could practically feel the animosity surrounding her. Since Julian was doing nothing to stop it, she decided to see him about it. After work that day, she followed him to his suite.

“Clear it of what?” he asked her when she asked whether he intended on clearing her name.

“You know what everybody has been saying about me,” she told him. “It would be nice if you gave an explanation and made it clear that your decision had nothing to do with me.”

“But it did,” he said, heading to the bar and pouring two glasses of wine.

He held one towards her, but she shook her head as she frowned. “What?”

He put her glass down and took a sip of his wine. “The elders came to see me today.”

“I know.”

“I told them that no one but you would be the Luna Queen of this kingdom,” he revealed.

Lyra blinked. “What?”

Julian's mouth turned up in a closed smile. Putting his wine down, he walked to her. “You heard what I said. You, Lyra Jenkins, are my mate and future queen.”

Lyra blinked again and shook her head. “I-I don't understand.”

“What don't you understand?”

Lyra looked at him like he had grown a second head all of a sudden. Why would he say that to the elders? Why would he let everybody believe that he had turned down Crystal for her? What exactly was he playing at? “You said…all those things you said…I can't be your queen.”

He had made sure she never forgot exactly why she was not fit enough to be his queen. Even when he no longer insulted her background or rank, he brought another female to the palace to be his future queen. He had said she could only be his mistress. So what on earth was he going on about?

“Forget what I said,” he told her. “I want no one but you by my side.”

“Why the sudden change of mind?” she questioned, suspicious of his motive behind it.

Julian reached for her hand and stroked her wrist with his thumb. “I wouldn't call it sudden. I haven't been able to stay away from you for a while now. As for Crystal, I never intended to marry her. I needed her to investigate her pack.”

Was that what he had been referring to when he asked her to wait for him? She had thought that he was hiding something, and Asher had also made a comment suggesting that not everything was as it appeared to be.

But even if it was true that he had never intended on marrying Crystal, it did not entirely explain his change of mind.

“You don't care about my background anymore?” she asked him.

“We were meant to be together,” he told her. “I looked all over the kingdom for you. Now I don't want you to go anywhere. Will you have me?”

“Do I have a choice?” she quipped.

He studied her face for a few silent moments. “Do you still want to leave?”

Did she? Not as badly as she had wanted to leave with Crystal looming the halls of the palace and her mate rubbing his betrayal in her face. Now, she could stay in the palace and pursue her dreams without worrying about the pain caused by having to witness her mate with someone else. But her staying had nothing to do with him. She had been waiting to hear that he had selected another Alpha female as his next queen. As long as he chose someone else, she was going to leave, one way or another.
