"That man..." After being taken away by Rutledge, Elinor got on his car. He stared the engine and then took a look at her. "Is he Victor?"
"Yes."
She didn't dare to look into his eyes, "Sorry, you meet so suddenly."
"Nothing."
He drove, his voice calm. "I'll meet him sooner or later. As long as he investigates, he'll know our past. Although I don't wanna see him, he'll find me."
She took a deep breath. "He won't do so."
"Why are you so sure?"
"I'm certainly sure."
She looked up at the rearview mirror and said, her voice unsteady. She knew him, so she was painful. "Because he never cares about me. He doesn't care about my past. Investigating me is laborious."
"Really?"
He asked, staring at her face with mixed feelings, then took back his look and laughed. "All right, I may push you."
"Watch your words."
She pinched his face and drawled, "My ex-boyfriend."
Rutledge was her ex-boyfriend abroad. She stayed together for half a year. Later, because they were inappropriate, they broke up peacefully, so they can still be friends.
