They're sobbing, holding each other. They're a mess. "How could you think we'd betray you, Luna?"
I ignore their cries, all except Onai who's just glaring at them silently, and turn back to Aiden. "So...?" I reach my hand out towards him. There's a question in it.
He hesitates before taking my hand.
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. I look beside me, trying to figure out where to put him. If I get up, maybe I could sit on him or one of the other two and then...
He gets down on one knee, never once letting go of my hand. Not like a marriage proposal. It's nothing like that. He's just trying to get closer to me. He holds my hand against his cheek, leaning into my touch. My heart stops. Then it speeds up all at once. I wrap my arms around his shoulders, pulling him closer. Closer.
It's decided that I'll be present at the next refugee situation...
Axel's POV
"Oh! There he is," Michael says.
Onai furrows his brow.
I do too when Mia smacks her forehead. "Please don't," she mutters.
Michael doesn't pay her any mind. Who are they talking about?
Today, Michael and Mia decided to sit next to Suzie, much to everyone's confusion. We didn't say anything about it though, afraid of upsetting Mia any more than we did last night. She wants to feel like she can make her own decisions, so... we'll let her.
Aiden gives me a skeptical look.
I wave him off.
"Hey," Suzie waves at the guy Michael was talking about. "Dante! Get over here."
'Dante,' who's currently across the lunchroom, looks horrified. He actually turns around, avoiding eye contact with her.
She huffs. "Is he serious? Mia, make him come over here."
"Why would Mia be able to make him come over here?" Carson furrows his brow.
Suzie gives him an uninterested look. "Because-"
"-because we're friends," Mia cuts her off.
Nothing could prepare my mind for the string of curse words that echo through my mind from Carson.
"... Friends?" He can't even fake a smile. He calls Dante over to have a 'talk' with him. Much to his subordinate's terror.
I wish I could say I acted as the voice of reason, telling Carson to calm down. Mia's allowed to have friends... male friends... male friends that she didn't tell us about or ever introduce us to even if they're in our pack or whatever.
I look at the guy. I don't tell Carson anything.
