She had read the novel, of course–but that was before she transmigrated. The story had already ended by then. What happened afterward, what these characters would go on to do in this world… she had no idea.
Louis had once been the formidable villain, and now that the story was over, his swift resurgence didn’t really seem out of place.
Still, Freya suddenly felt like the one thing she’d relied on since arriving in this world was slipping out from under her. A hollow spot opened up in her chest.
It didn’t take long for her to figure out why. Louis had been the first person she met after arriving here. Even though she’d always known they would eventually part ways, she couldn’t help the attachment she’d formed–like a baby bird imprinting on the first face it saw.
And over these days and nights together, that attachment had only grown stronger. Now that she’d suddenly learned Louis was on the verge of making a comeback, she was forced to face the reality that they would soon go their separate ways.
It wasn’t that she was deeply attached to Louis himself–she’d always known they weren’t on the same path, and she’d prepared herself for a short–lived relationship. But the abruptness of it left her feeling strangely unmoored.
“What is it?” Louis stopped just outside the private dining room while waiting for the server to open the door. Freya had bumped into his back.
