Chapter 139 Shameless Praise

Across the table, Louis set down his fork and looked at Freya, speaking in a calm, unhurried tone. “So… what kind of man would you say I am?”

Uh–oh. This definitely called for some serious flattery.

“Refined with a touch of intellect. Intelligent with a streak of dominance. Commanding, but never overbearing. Handsome- handsome in a way that’s totally one of a kind. No matter where you go, you stand out in a crowd. It feels like any obstacle crumbles when it meets you, and no problem is too difficult for you to solve.”

Feeling that wasn’t quite enough, Freya added on,

“I’ve always thought the highest praise you can give a man is to say he takes responsibility. No matter the crisis, once he steps in, it’s handled. And Louis, that’s exactly the kind of person you are. From the moment I met you, I thought you practically glowed. Like one of those ancient noble sons–pen in hand, you’d ace the imperial exams as a top scholar; sword in hand, you’d sweep the battlefield and earn immortal glory.”

Surely that was enough now?

Aiden stared at Freya in awe, his tone filled with admiration. “Freya, you’re amazing. I’ve only ever seen people suck up like that on TV, but you just made it sound so natural!”

Freya slowly lowered her gaze to look at Aiden. Aiden blinked at her, then turned to Louis, guessing that even his uncle probably hadn’t heard compliments like that before.

“Ahem. Eat your food,” Louis said. He didn’t comment further–just picked up his fork and resumed eating.

Aiden observed closely and noticed something shocking: his uncle’s ears seemed just a tiny bit red. Whoa. Who would’ve thought his cool, calm, secretly ruthless uncle could actually get embarrassed? Freya was seriously something else!

“Freya, can’t you just tell me what happens next in your novel? I really wanna know.”

Deep breath. Don’t hit the kid, she told herself. What kid didn’t act up sometimes?

“Aiden, you’ve got to understand–these domineering CEO stories are written for people going through rough times. And if the writer wants to make money, the ending has to be happy. No one reads these to suffer. So, you get it, right?”
