“So what’s your plan after this?”

Freya didn’t know why, but she let out a breath of relief. Somehow, hearing that question made her feel significantly lighter.

“I’ll rent a place, keep writing to earn a living. Life should be pretty relaxed. Maybe I’ll sketch some designs here and there, and if the timing’s right, I could take on some design work. Hopefully, I’ll go on one or two trips a year. The rest of the time will be just like now. If my novel gets adapted into a show, and I get to work as part of the screenwriting team, I might follow the crew around. That’s about it.”

As she spoke, a warm smile spread across her face.

“I’m not very ambitious. As long as I make enough to live on and cushion life’s bumps, that’s enough. I don’t need to be rich. I just want a simple, steady life, filled with the small things that make it feel real. That’s why I don’t think I’d ever match well with someone like you. It’s better to part ways while we still have a bit of goodwill left–so in the future, if we run into each other, we can still nod hello.”

She had thought about many things before, but Louis‘ rise came so fast it shattered all of them. He never actually needed her help, so she couldn’t keep pretending they shared some sort of deep bond. Honestly, if she stuck to the original path of the old Freya, she’d still owe him.

Which meant: the money and the apartment–she couldn’t keep either.

The money came from selling those designer bags and clothes, which had been his to begin with. The apartment was bought with that same money, so naturally it belonged to him, too. In these two months, she’d only made a tiny bit of income from her writing. That thirty thousand she wanted to take with her? It was more like borrowing from him.
