A hundred possible reasons flashed through her mind, but none of them really held water. In the end, Freya went with what sounded like the most reasonable excuse.
“You’re about to make your comeback. If we get divorced now, it won’t interfere with you finding someone new later. Besides, separating now means I won’t get blinded by money down the line and start having other ideas. People change. The best way to avoid testing human nature is to not give it a chance. If we split now, there won’t be any disputes over money in the future.”
The tapping of Louis‘ finger slowed, and his tightly furrowed brows began to loosen.
“If I end up rich and powerful, even if we divorce later, it wouldn’t stop me from finding someone else. So that reason doesn’t hold up. As for you turning greedy, that contradicts everything you just said about yourself. And even if that did happen, I wouldn’t begrudge you a little money. That excuse doesn’t hold either.”
“Then what’s the real reason?”
Mentally exhausted. Freya just threw something out. “Fine, I just think keeping things like this isn’t sustainable. If we’re destined to go our separate ways eventually, then why drag it out? The sooner we get divorced, the sooner we both return to normal life. Isn’t that a good thing?”
“So I’m supposed to carry the reputation of a man who dumps the wife who suffered with him through hard times?”
Freya blinked. “Huh?”
“Then tell me how many serious businessmen have mistresses and treat their wives poorly? Try to force them out empty- handed, even? I’m talking about real businessmen, not nouveau riche.”
“But…” Freya’s face scrunched up. She had not expected any of this. “I don’t really know much about businesspeople… So you’re saying we can’t get divorced now?”
