Chapter 150 The Thief

Chapter 150 The Thief

As she spoke, Freya suddenly noticed something odd. She blinked in surprise. “Wait–hold on. You know Jasmine?”

“Jasmine?” Waylon turned to look at Jasmine, and the irritation in his chest spiked even higher. He’d spent so much effort just to get permission to call her by her name. And these two? They’d barely known each other five minutes and already she had a nickname?

“I’m her brother,” Waylon said, his tone just a little smug.

Brother? That didn’t seem quite right–Freya was pretty sure they weren’t blood siblings. Their last names weren’t the same. Sensing something off in his proud tone but not entirely sure why, Freya asked cautiously.

“You mean like… cousin?”

If it were paternal cousins, they’d probably share a last name.

“I’m staying with him while I train outside the family,” Jasmine answered before Waylon could. “His grandpa arranged it.”

Freya nodded slowly, and Jasmine turned to Waylon. “I called Mathilda earlier. Is she unavailable?”

Waylon’s heart squeezed. He’d told Jasmine countless times to come to him if anything ever happened, that he’d always be there. But when trouble actually came, the first person she called was still Mathilda. Clearly, she hadn’t taken a single word of his to heart.

Not that he could get mad at her. All he could do was shift the blame to Mathilda for intentionally creating “opportunities” for him.

“Mathilda was busy. She had something personal to take care of.”

“I see. Thank you, then.” Jasmine stood up and nodded at him, her expression calm and polite–completely different from the gentle warmth she’d shown Freya.

“It’s no trouble at all. Really, this is how it should be,” Waylon said, immediately stepping forward and wedging himself. between her and Freya.

Freya felt like he’d shoved her on purpose. He used to just find her annoying–now it felt like he was outright hostile. Maybe I’m imagining things… she thought, chewing on her lip. I didn’t even do anything. Then again, maybe he was just mad because she’d dragged Jasmine into something dangerous and wasted his time.

Waylon had finally gotten the chance to have a halfway decent conversation with Jasmine, only to be nearly knocked into her by Freya. He turned around, ready to snap, Do I owe you money or something?, but caught sight of Louis and swallowed his frustration.
