With the dress chosen, the next hurdle was makeup. This was a real headache for Freya. She had never been particularly interested in makeup–most of her time had been spent at home writing. She only put on makeup occasionally when going out, but since she wasn’t drop–dead gorgeous, just slightly above average, she never felt the need to put in too much effort.

Now, in this new life, things were different. The original owner of this body had been someone who loved makeup and was well aware of her beauty. If Freya suddenly started struggling with something the previous owner had been skilled at, it would be a major red flag. Louis would definitely find it suspicious if she suddenly forgot how to do something she had once! mastered.

So, over the past few days, while Louis was out, Freya locked herself in her room, watching makeup tutorials and experimenting with the various products in the vanity. Despite having the original owner’s memories, makeup was one of those things where knowing and actually doing were completely different. There was a huge gap between being able to apply makeup and truly mastering the art of it.

On the day of the banquet, Freya spent an absurd amount of time getting ready. She changed outfits, redid her makeup four times, and only stepped out of her room once she was somewhat satisfied with the results.

Louis had been sitting on the couch for a while, casually reading. The moment she stepped out, he put his book down and looked up. But as soon as he did, his brows furrowed.

Freya’s heart nearly jumped out of her chest. “What? Did I do something wrong?”
