Chapter 27 Attending the Banquet

Worried that Louis might bring up a conversation she couldn’t keep up with, Freya deliberately chose to sit in the back seat. But even that wasn’t enough to escape small talk.
Freya never imagined she’d find herself in this situation, and to be fair, neither had Louis. He had never once thought he would personally drive his so–called wife to a banquet. In the past, he wouldn’t have even let his driver bring her along.
Yet, sitting in complete silence felt awkward. Seeing that Freya had no intention of speaking, Louis took the initiative. “You’re dressed so lightly. Aren’t you cold?”
“It’s fine. It’s long–sleeved, so it’s not too bad,” Freya quickly responded.
Louis turned the steering wheel and caught a glimpse of her in the rearview mirror. She looked slightly tense, which made him feel a mischievous urge–something he hadn’t felt since childhood. “I get the feeling… your attitude toward me has changed.”
“Huh? No way.” Freya reflexively denied it, then forced a polite smile. “We have no grudges between us, and you’ve been good to me. I should be grateful. It’s just that we never interacted much before, but now we’re seeing each other every day. I’m just not used to it yet, but I will be soon.”
Louis was about to say something else when he noticed her absentmindedly rubbing her arms. The forced smile faded, leaving behind an expression of uncertainty. Suddenly, he lost interest in continuing the conversation. Until the investigation results come in, maybe I shouldn’t overthink this. So far, she hasn’t done anything to harm me. I’ll wait until I have the full picture.
