Chapter 262 Don’t Worry
Jasmine looked a little confused. “For real?”
Freya almost wanted to grab her and kiss her–she was just that adorable. That dazed expression, like a fairy who had accidentally fallen into the mortal world, made her heart melt. She quickly explained,
“It’s a drinking game. You play rock–paper–scissors, and the loser either answers a question truthfully–no lying allowed–or takes on a dare from the winner.”
“So, it’s just a game?” Jasmine asked seriously.
Waylon saw her expression and, for some reason, felt a tightness in his chest. But the image of the luggage sitting in the living room flashed through his mind, and he steeled himself.
“Yeah. Those idiots made me confess to you; I said it was ridiculous and refused, so they
something on the way back. Whatever I said, don’t take it to heart. It’s all my fault. I swear, I won’t drink that much again.”

Jasmine visibly relaxed and shook her head. “It’s fine.”
The emerald green hairpin in her hair swayed gently, drawing a graceful arc. Waylon finally exhaled in relief. That was close.
What he said was genuine–he meant it. No more drinking from now on. Just once and he’d already nearly screwed things up; if it happened again, he might not get another shot.
The atmosphere finally began to lighten. With Freya and Waylon keeping things lively, Louis simply added food to Freya’s plate now and then or looked at her with gentle eyes.
Freya stuck to the topics she’d prepared in advance and asked Jasmine questions with an air of sincerity.
Jasmine answered them one by one. When dinner was finally over and they were about to leave, Freya couldn’t help but give Jasmine a hug–only for Louis to gently pull her back by the wrist.
“Everyone’s got stuff to do tomorrow. Let’s call it an early night. Whatever you want to say, save it for when things settle down.”
On the side, Waylon nodded furiously. “Yeah, exactly. Whatever it is, we’ll talk about it later, It’s getting late; let’s all get some rest. I’ll take Jasmine back. You two, Louis and Freya, head

out too.
Freya suspected Waylon was just trying to get a moment alone with Jasmine and was rushing her off on purpose. But she didn’t have proof–and Louis still had her by the wrist—so she could only pout and say goodbye to Jasmine.
On the way back, Freya couldn’t hold in her curiosity and asked Louis, “Do you actually know what Jasmine’s family is really about?”
milar roots, more like a distant “Her family probably has some ties to an old sect with offshoot that evolved on its own. Waylon looked into it later–the Miller family is actually pretty influential. They work closely with various special departments, and every generation, someone’s in charge of studying ancient texts. They’re a well–respected clan, with their own temple and a solid reputation in the field.”
“So Jasmine must be one of the top disciples of her generation, right?” Freya had complete confidence in Jasmine.
“Their philosophy values things like, ‘A flicker of true talent does more than a lifetime of effort; everyone else is just spinning their wheels. In other words, they prize innate ability. Jasmine has a carved bone in her chest–according to ancient records, that kind of person is born to ascend and become immortal. So you can imagine how gifted she is. She’s the most highly regarded disciple in the Miller family. She started learning from birth and only just now was allowed out into the world.”
Louis explained everything to Freya with calm patience. Freya felt a sudden pang of sympathy.
“Then Waylon’s got it rough. Jasmine’s a real fairy. Chasing after her won’t be easy. But she just entered the world and he’s already after her–makes you wonder who’s really the unlucky one.”
In Freya’s eyes, Jasmine was the picture of that cold, unreachable beauty people always talked about. At least those women were still allowed to fall in love. But once Jasmine stepped into her family’s legacy, even marriage would be out of the picture.
“These are their own choices. Whatever she decides, Waylon has already thought it through. You don’t need to worry about him; he knows what he’s doing.”
Louis clearly didn’t want Freya/getting involved. Matters of the heart weren’t something outsiders could fix, and it was usually best not to interfere. Help where you can, and that’s it.
Especially in Freya’s case–Waylon was someone she’d only met because of Louis, but Jasmine was her own friend. There was no need to make things difficult for her because of
