“Oh, absolutely. I have a rather limited worldview, nowhere near as broad as yours, Mr. Graham. I just run a small business to get by–keeps me safe from unexpected troubles,” Kent admitted shamelessly, though there was an unmistakable undertone to his words.

Noah, the younger man who had been standing with him earlier now stepped forward, bringing his female companion along. His expression was just as unpleasant. “I heard that Mr. Graham and Mrs. Graham haven’t exactly had the best relationship. But from the looks of it, things aren’t as bad as people say. Sigh… If I ever lost everything, I wouldn’t have the heart to let my woman suffer alongside me. That’s what a real man would do.”

Freya immediately recognized this man from the original owner’s memories. His family was in the construction materials business, and back in the day, his sister had often begged the original owner for favors, hoping to secure orders from Louis. Back then, the original owner had been flattered by the attention and would occasionally put in a good word for them. Louis, seemingly indifferent, had sometimes thrown them a few orders.

Yet now that Louis‘ fortune had declined, this man was the first to jump out and mock them. Absolutely disgusting.

This time, Louis hadn’t even spoken yet when Freya stepped forward. She stood in front of him and smiled—a sharp, mocking smile.

“It’s not that you wouldn’t let your woman suffer–it’s that no woman would be willing to suffer for you, isn’t it?” She tilted her head slightly, her voice light but dripping with sarcasm. “I heard Mr. Noah has no shortage of romantic partners. Yet, when your company nearly went bankrupt because of faulty materials, not a single one stepped in to help. If your business were to truly collapse, would there be anyone left by your side?”

Then she turned to Kent, eyes gleaming with cold amusement. “I understand that you’re envious of how close my husband and I are, Mr. Kent. It’s fine. Birds of a feather flock together, after all. If you have no one willing to stand by you when times get tough, it’s not surprising. You enjoy beautiful women now, but when you lose everything and they leave you, I’m sure you’ll be able to accept that too. Besides, life is unpredictable. You never know when the tables might turn. It’s best to watch what you say otherwise, if fate decides to humble you, wouldn’t that be awkward?”

Chapter 29 1

A stylishly dressed young man was walking toward them. He was handsome–no, ridiculously good–looking. But more importantly, the moment he saw Freya, his expression froze for a second. However, his attention barely lingered on her before shifting back to Louis.
