Chapter 301 You’re Not Fooling Anyone
Jasmine looked like she was lost in thought for a second.

“What’s wrong?” The bus was pulling up, and Waylon turned to look at her. When he saw her zoning out, he snapped his fingers in front of her face to bring her back.
“Nothing.” Jasmine shook her head and moved to board the bus.
And then-
“This one’s too full! No more room! Wait for the next one!” the driver shouted as the door opened. A guy at the front nearly lost his balance and grabbed the person in front of him, which earned him a string of curse words.
Jasmine froze, then silently stepped back.
Behind her, Waylon ducked his head and chuckled to himself. Please. Of course this was going to happen. If he hadn’t known the situation, he never would’ve offered so eagerly. When he wanted something done, there weren’t many things he couldn’t make happen. Jasmine just didn’t
get that
yet. Man, she really doesn’t know me.
Sure enough, the next few 69 buses came and went, all packed to bursting. Jasmine seemed to catch on that something was off and looked a little awkward.
“Looks like today’s just not your day,” Waylon said casually, pretending not to notice her discomfort. “Why don’t I give you a lift? It’s probably tough to get a cab right now too.”
“Sorry to trouble you.” Jasmine checked the time and, realizing she was running late, reluctantly agreed.
Following her directions, Waylon drove until they reached the entrance of a government facility–a special one. Don’t ask him how he knew. The man had connections, and this place had been mentioned before.
As soon as Jasmine stepped out of the car, someone came out to greet her. Waylon instantly recognized the guy as someone high up. That changed his perspective fast. Jasmine wasn’t just working in government–she had someone from this kind of office personally greeting
her.
If he’d had any lingering doubts before, they were gone now. Andres probably had zero intention of letting Jasmine and him develop anything more than friendship. When it came to work, Andres was all business–disciplined and uncompromising.

No wonder the old man likes her so much, Waylon thought, twisting his lips. A lot of his earlier suspicions were starting to make sense now.
But all of that thinking got derailed the second a young guy strolled over to Jasmine with a grin and way too much familiarity. Waylon didn’t even think–he marched over too, all smiles, and greeted the higher–up he vaguely recognized.
“Well, if it isn’t Sophia! What a pleasure!”
There wasn’t a soul in this city who didn’t know the six Walker brothers. Sophia laughed and gave Waylon a friendly slap on the shoulder.
“You’ve been doing pretty well for yourself, haven’t you? I heard you’ve been raking in the cash.”
That was all Waylon needed. He latched onto the opportunity, casually stepped between Jasmine and the smiley guy, and handed Sophia a fine cigar with a grin.
“This is our Jasmine–just moved here. Hope you’ll keep an eye out for her. If you ever need anything, just say the word. My grandpa’s always saying I’m good–for–nothing, but I’m out here making money to contribute to the country, y’know? Don’t be polite with me.”
Sophia accepted the cigar, chuckling as she pointed a finger at him.
“You, huh? That’s just your grandpa having high hopes for you. You’re doing just fine for your generation. I get what you’re saying–don’t worry. Jasmine’s a special hire. We treasure her. No one’s gonna mess with her here. What goes on inside’s not something you need to worry about, just rest easy.”
Waylon was still trying to wrap his head around what “special hire” meant when Sophia led Jasmine inside.
This place? Off–limits without clearance. Waylon couldn’t follow her in even if he wanted to -not with all the money in the world. Even using Andres’s name wouldn’t help. Andres didn’t oversee this department.
“Waylon! Hey, Waylon! What’re you zoning out for? Come on, it’s starting up front.” Kendrick was practically–shouting in his ear.
