Because Kendrick was sitting next to her, no one else came over. Among these people, anyone with even a bit of status knew Kendrick was someone you didn’t mess with―completely reckless and impossible to deal with when angry.

Freya had expected to face a lot of awkward situations at this party, but before long, Louis was already taking her away. Kendrick tried to call Louis over for something, but Louis turned him down. Then the two of them left together.

From beginning to end, aside from the three people they’d bumped into at the start, it felt like the others only greeted Louis when they happened to pass by–and that was it. Freya couldn’t even tell why Louis had come to the party in the first place.

Sitting in the car, she thought back to the memories of the cannon fodder’s past–whenever Louis attended a party, there’d always be crowds trying to get close to him. Compared to that, now there was no one around except Kendrick. Watching Louis drive up front, Freya couldn’t help but feel that Louis‘ figure held a quiet kind of desolation.

She hesitated for a good three minutes before finally mustering the courage to speak. “Did you accomplish what you came to the party for today?”

Louis was caught off guard by the question. He thought of the moment Freya had stepped in front of him and answered in a low voice, “I guess I did.”

She thought, He didn’t really do anything, but he says he accomplished his goalI really don’t understand how these powerful people operate. Maybe he just wanted to show everyone that he wasn’t doing as badly as they thought? No way Louis is that petty… He grew up with privilege and received the best elite education.

“How can we not rush? Housing prices are changing every day–if we don’t buy soon, we’ll lose out more and more. Renting isn’t a long–term solution. If you’re worried or uncomfortable, we can put the place in your name. At the very least, having a home means we won’t have to worry about ending up with nowhere to go.”
