Sophia took a deep breath and forced herself to focus again, scanning the room for any clue about who the hidden character might be.
Meanwhile, Freya laughed and replied to Adeline, “People change after going through things. You start realizing what really matters in life–what you want to do, who you want to be. Of course, I still hope most people don’t have to go through that kind of pain to figure it out.”
Adeline chuckled, curling her lips into a playful smile. “You really are a sweetheart. I heard you stayed by Mr. Graham’s side the whole time after what happened to him. Not only loyal but with your head on straight. If you ask me, those hardships weren’t all bad–you both came out better for it.”
She grinned wider. “You found your purpose. And Mr. Graham? He finally found someone to stop him from being a bachelor forever. I’d say that’s a pretty good trade.”
Freya found herself genuinely liking Adeline. She had that no–nonsense boldness Freya admired the kind of effortless queen energy Freya had always wanted but never quite mastered.
Soon, Adeline brought up the drama Freya had adapted, surprising Freya completely.
“How do you even know about that?” she asked, wide–eyed.
Adeline waved her hand, amused. “Oh please. Your man stirred up half the city defending your honor. I was just curious how the ‘fake gentleman‘ turned into someone who’d fly into a rage over a girl. Naturally, I looked into it.”
Freya blinked. “Stirred up half the city?”
“Didn’t he pressure the Scott family into a corner? Got the Twitter team reshuffled? Poor Andres–finally had a grandson worth showing off, and Mr. Graham turned him into rubble.”
Adeline laughed like she couldn’t help herself.
“Apparently that Savannah girl from the Scott family tried reaching out to Sebastian recently but got shut down every time. She used to act like some untouchable goddess, always dangling him along. Now that the tides have turned, she tried reeling him in–and he saw through it. Cold rejection.”
“What happened after that?” Freya asked, intrigued.
“Nothing good. Savannah’s not stupid. She’s still admired by plenty of men, and she knows

how to play the game. But her father, Ethan, doesn’t care one bit about her feelings. He’s pushing her to grovel to Sebastian. And you can bet Andres took the opportunity to teach his grandson how to spot a manipulative woman. That girl’s never marrying into the Wells family. That door’s shut for good.”
“I don’t get the business side of things,” Freya muttered. “But throwing a woman under the bus for a family’s mistake? That’s low. The Scott family really has no shame.”
She didn’t know Savannah hadn’t even been the one who tried to ruin her, yet now she was the one sent to clean up the mess. If Freya had known that Natalie–another Scott family daughter–was nearby, eyeing Louis like a prize, she might’ve been even more disgusted.
Natalie was watching Louis. The longer she observed him, the more she felt like he was the exact kind of man she wanted–noble, powerful, and devastatingly handsome.
A few people were gathered around him, mostly men or commanding businesswomen. No dainty little sweethearts to be seen. She’d seen the mess earlier with Sophia and instantly decided that she was nothing like her.
Sophia, in her opinion, wasn’t particularly delicate or stunning. And that fake–pitiful act? Please. No wonder Louis was completely unmoved. If it had been her, she was certain she could do better.
