Chapter 382 The Cards You’re Dealt
Chapter 382 The Cards You’re Dealt
“Let’s go, let’s go–no point hanging around where the girls are chatting. Louis, Baylon, us grown men should have our own conversations,” Kendrick said as he tugged Louis’s arm
Louis remained still, until Kendrick leaned in and teased, “Come on, Louis. Don’t just stand here. Give Freya and Ms. Adeline some space. You can’t be glued to her 24/7–what if she gets bored of you?”
Adeline laughed behind her hand, clearly amused. “Exactly! Mr. Graham, go on now. I’m here. If you keep hovering around her like that every day, your little sweetheart might just get sick of you.”
Freya smiled and shook her head at Louis, adorable as ever. Louis’s expression finally softened, and with a faint smile, he left with Kendrick and Baylon, heading back to their previous spot.
Adeline leaned in toward Freya, eyes sparkling. “Little sweetheart, you’ve changed a lot. You’re much more likable now. If I’d known you were this fun, I would’ve looked for you earlier.”
She gave Freya’s cheek a light pinch and chuckled.
“Back then, Louis always looked like some refined gentleman–serene and noble. But honestly, he was cold as ice. Now look at him–like a whole new man. I watched just now. Even while we were chatting, his eyes practically stuck to you. I counted–he looked at you at least three times in under a minute. Who would’ve thought the ice prince would ever melt?”
Sophia, now seated across the room, watched as Adeline and Freya laughed like old friends. Her chest tightened. The way Adeline seemed genuinely fond of Freya made the whole thing feel like a cruel joke.
She couldn’t help but vent to the system.
“Sometimes I really wonder–who’s the protagonist here, me or Freya? She’s got Louis doting on her. Even if it’s not love, the fact that she’s his wife means people treat her with respect. No matter how unwilling they are, they have to give her face. She spends lavishly, uses luxury goods, and enjoys every benefit Louis brings her. Her life is effortlessly easy
Then her tone darkened.
“And me? I have to claw my way up step by step. Train my acting. Buy things with my own money. And even if I want to get something from a man, I have to play it carefully can’t seem gold–digging, can’t pick up a single stain, and I can’t even date openly becalises Li

supposed to be ‘strategically conquering‘ targets. Seriously?”
Just thinking about the public humiliation she’d endured earlier made her boil with frustration.

“If I hadn’t tried to get close to Freya, would I have been humiliated like that? I bust my ass trying to gain favor with the targets and still end up with someone tripping me up. You said there was a hidden character to pursue–where is he? I haven’t even seen him. All I’ve done is serve myself up on a silver platter to be publicly humiliated!”
What Sophia didn’t know was that if Freya had heard all this, she’d have been furious. As if she hadn’t worked hard herself.
When Freya had believed Louis had nothing, she worked day and night to earn money–not just to support herself, but also to provide for Louis. Even Aiden’s pet food came out of her pocket. She’d taken care of everything.
Meanwhile, Sophia had the cheat–code start: a bright career, a loaded bank account, and multiple connections. And yet she complained.
Sure, others might think having a man like Louis thrown in was enough to make up for anything. But Freya wasn’t some shallow girl obsessed with good looks. Just because she had a handsome husband in name didn’t mean she automatically accepted him into her heart.
In the end, the cards you’re dealt are fate. How you play them? That’s on you.
The system gave a soft sigh.
“As a system, I can only offer information and suggestions. What you choose to do with them–that’s up to you. I have no control over your decisions.”
Sophia exploded.
“So now you’re saying it’s all my fault? That you don’t bear any responsibility at all? If you hadn’t told me I was the protagonist, if you hadn’t given me these tools and so–called opportunities, I wouldn’t have approached Freya. I wouldn’t have ended up like this!”
The system’s voice remained emotionless. “Then what do you want, Host?”
