The only instruction Louis gave regarding her meeting with Susan was to keep the conversation casual and avoid sensitive topics–and to report back with anything she found out.
To be honest, this undercover kind of assignment was something Freya had only ever written into her own novels. Even in her past life, she never imagined she’d actually be doing it herself one day.”
Since Susan was the one who extended the invitation, she naturally picked the place. Freya told herself this was just a chance to enjoy a good meal–take advantage of the rich, so to speak. After all, she really didn’t know anything, and there was no way Susan would choose some roadside stall.
Sure enough, the place Susan picked was a well–known café in the city center. When Freya looked it up online the night before, she saw that even the cheapest drink was over two hundred.
Over two hundred for a cup of coffee? Are you kidding me? Freya had never been that extravagant in her life!
The day of the meeting, she made sure to dress herself up. Even if she was bound to be mocked afterward, at least she wouldn’t give them any excuse to say she looked sloppy.
Still, what she didn’t expect at all was for the very first thing Susan said to her… to be yet another jab.
“Freya, I know you’re upset. You’ve always been proud. But now that things have come to this, I’m sure your makeup collection isn’t what it used to be. You really don’t have to put on a show in front of me. Even if you came bare–faced, I wouldn’t look down on you.”
Ha. Freya just wanted to say–if she wasn’t better looking than Susan, she might’ve actually believed Susan meant well.
Led by the server into a private room with the best view, Freya couldn’t help but marvel. No wonder rich people love this place- it really is something else. Just the size of the courtyard alone could outshine any little teahouse. And the design? Absolutely master–level.
