Chapter 392 Not Love, Just Gratitude?
As expected, when it came to outstanding men, a little rivalry was inevitable.
“Of course I know them,” Sophia nodded, steering the conversation directly toward Louis. She wasn’t planning on going after him anymore anyway, so she spoke with measured objectivity.
“Mr. Graham is incredibly capable. At a young age, he took over Graham Group and grew it into a powerhouse. Later, when the Graham family started becoming more of a burden than an asset, he faked a downfall to shake them off. Behind the scenes, he launched a wildly profitable VR gaming project. As the sole beneficiary, he basically secured years of guaranteed profits. With that foundation, he’s now pushing into all sorts of automation research. There’s no doubt he’s only going to grow more powerful.”
Saying all that, Sophia couldn’t help feeling a twinge of bitterness. A man like that should’ve been hers.
What a waste.
“Just look at how popular Mr. Graham is tonight. That alone shows you how influential he’s become. I’d bet half the people here are hoping to partner up with him for business.”–
She went on for a while, but it was nothing George didn’t already know. It wasn’t what he wanted to hear.
“I heard he didn’t treat his wife very well in the past. It was only after he hit rock bottom and she stayed by his side that he started developing feelings for her?”
George had just gotten that bit of information from his people, and it had stirred something in him. A woman gets overlooked after marriage, only to be valued later for her loyalty—was that love or just gratitude? Who could say?
As far as George was concerned, it definitely wasn’t love. In his eyes, Louis was simply moved by Freya’s devotion and now felt guilty. That guilt made him treat her well.
Compared to someone like George, who genuinely liked Freya, Louis’s feelings seemed impure. Gratitude could last a moment, but not a lifetime. Sooner or later, things between Louis and Freya were bound to fall
apart.
“That’s right,” Sophia replied. “Back then, Mr. Graham only gave Freya money. He never really cared about her. Poor Freya–her days revolved around shopping, flaunting her new clothes and bags in front of mistresses who didn’t even take her seriously. It wasn’t a good life.”
A spark of inspiration hit her. This was a perfect chance to steer the conversation, highlight Louis’s loyalty and sense of responsibility, and subtly show how strong their relationship was. If George was the type to compare, then this was the angle to take.
Graham fell from power and Freya stuck by him without knowing the “But that’s all in the past. When Mr. truth, he came back stronger than ever–and now he treasures her more than anything. He treats her like she’s made of glass. You can see how different their relationship is now.”
George wasn’t impressed. “Being good to someone out of gratitude–that’s not love. It just means he knows how to repay kindness. But for Mrs. Graham, that’s unfortunate. Honestly, she’s a fool for getting caught up in that kind of one–sided emotion.”
Sophia froze. And then, something clicked.
Chapter 392 Not Love, Just Gratitude?
Right. Maybe Louis was only treating Freya well because he felt indebted to her. Any decent man would be. touched if a woman stuck with him through hard times. But that didn’t necessarily mean he loved her.
So… maybe things wouldn’t work out between Louis and Freya after all. Maybe she’d given up too early.
