Chapter 391 A Gentleman’s Distraction
Chapter 391 A Gentleman’s Distraction
Seriously, what was with this guy? He barely talked on a normal day, but the moment he opened his mouth to say something romantic, it hit like a missile.
And it caught her completely off guard–ruthless, really!
While the two of them basked in their own sugary little bubble, the scene at a nearby table was playing out very differently.
Sophia was carefully adjusting her posture, every ounce of her attention focused on the stunning man beside her–so good–looking she couldn’t tear her eyes away.
She had noticed George’s general direction of movement earlier and didn’t hesitate to swoop in and grab the seat next to him. She’d earned more than a few scornful looks from other women nearby, but she didn’t care one bit.
As long as she sat next to him, a whole dinner would give her ample opportunity to strike up a conversation.
She angled herself to showcase what she believed was her best profile and prettiest pose. Every now and then, she stole glances at George, who hadn’t said a word. Yet oddly, he hadn’t looked at her even once- not even a flick of the eyes. It was like she didn’t even exist. Instead, his attention was clearly locked onto Louis.
“Would you like some juice?” Out of options for small talk, Sophia picked up the juice pitcher. She poured herself a glass, then poured one for him, and finally asked.
“No, thank you.” George didn’t even look at her. His reply was perfunctory at best, and his eyes remained fixed in Louis’s direction.
Something felt off. In her head, Sophia asked the system,
Does this hidden character have some kind of special connection with the male lead? He’s been staring that the moment he arrived. I offered him juice and he didn’t even glance at me.

The system’s robotic voice responded:
According to our data, the hidden character and the male lead have no direct interaction. They are strangers who’ve only heard of each other. However, they did greet and exchange a few words just now.
Sophia quickly followed up. What did they say?
That falls outside the system’s inquiry parameters. You’ll need to figure that out yourself. Good luck, Host! You’ve already acquired intel on the hidden character–keep going, you’ve got this!
Sophia barely resisted the urge to roll her eyes. What was the point of having a system that only gave vague, high–level info and none of the useful stuff? It was basically useless.
Feigning indifference, she kept an eye on George. Sure enough, his gaze remained fixed on Louis. She wondered if something had happened earlier–or maybe they had a weird kind of mutual tension or attraction? Could it be… was George gay?

Her imagination took off running, and she stiffened at the thought. She quickly asked the system, Wait, he not gay, is he?
Even through the robotic tone, the system sounded just a little bit exasperated. Of course not.
So then… maybe it was a case of rival recognition? That electric buzz when two titans face off? Sophia could only guess.
But guessing wouldn’t get her anywhere. As the dishes started arriving, she couldn’t help noticing that even with the spread of gourmet food before him, George looked completely uninterested–his eyes still fixed on Louis. Well, forget analyzing him like a lab specimen. She was here to make contact with the hidden character, not to study him.
So, as the lobster was served, Sophia smiled and said sweetly,
“This lobster–Mrs. Graham always says it’s amazing. Sir, would you mind helping me get a piece? I can’t quite reach. Thanks!”
