“You all sound real tough now,” someone nearby laughed, “but wait till you see your little tyrants at home whining and pouting. I swear, rich people’s biggest advantage is that they’ve seen too many pretty faces. That’s why they’re immune. Just look at how adorable that kid is, and they’re not even tempted to spoil him. I’d never hold out.”

“Oof, that hits home. My niece cries and I feel like my heart’s being ripped out. Can’t stand it. She’s still so little–her cries sound like she’s being torn apart. I always worry she’s going to hurt her voice. It’s impossible not to give in.”

“Exactly. It’s easy to talk tough now, but once you’re home and staring at those big eyes and tears, sticking to your principles gets a lot harder. If you can just raise a half–decent human being, you’ve already done your job. Hoping they turn out brilliant? Dream on.”

The women’s chatter drifted off into unrelated territory. Aiden didn’t care to listen anymore. Since Freya wasn’t being forced to line up alone, there was nothing to feel bad about. He tugged Louis toward a nearby bench so they could wait together— after all, everyone was going to take their turn eventually.

After a short wait, it was their turn. Naturally, Aiden took the middle seat, with Freya on one side and Louis on the other.

Even seated on a roller coaster, the three of them continued drawing attention. Plenty of onlookers were still turning their heads to gawk, and Freya started to feel a little self–conscious. But when she glanced at Louis, the man looked like he was back in a boardroom. Regal and composed, completely unfazed.

So that’s the difference, Freya thought. People born and raised in the spotlight versus us normal folk. I could never match that.

She sighed inwardly, then looked at Aiden. He was busy checking his safety straps, utterly ignoring everyone else around them, eyes sparkling with excitement.

“Freya, double–check your strap, okay? Don’t take any

chances.

Freya couldn’t help but wonder: would Louissomeone so composed and untouchable–react like a normal person on such a wild ride? Or would he stay just as stone–faced even during the steep drops?

I have to watch him closely, she decided.

From the moment the roller coaster began its slow climb, Freya kept one eye on Louis. The car inched upward, higher and higher. As they neared the peak, her nerves kicked in–this was it, the big drop was coming.

Right before reaching the summit, Louis finally deigned to lower his hands and grip the safety bar, but his expression didn’t change. He stared straight ahead, unfazed.
