After leaving Brian's research institution, Charlotte returned home.
On the way home, she kept replaying the day's events. It all felt far too dramatic.
She had wanted to avoid that wretched man, but in the blink of an eye, she took the job of treating him.
It seemed like she couldn't discard him anytime soon.
She made up her mind that once he was healed and she had made enough money, she was getting as far as she could.
While she was deep in thought, her phone suddenly rang. She glanced at it and saw it was a call from her assistant, Anna.
"Ms. Howard, I've just arrived in Marindale. I'm outside your house, but you're not home."
Charlotte quickly replied, "I'm at the door, almost there. Please wait for a moment."
Anna was her personal assistant. She had come this time to help with tasks for the branch office. Because of the handover process, she arrived two days later than Charlotte.
"Alright then, I'll wait for you." Anna chuckled.
After hanging up, Charlotte quickened her pace toward her villa.
Just as she was nearby, a small figure darted from behind the bushes and threw itself at her, hugging her leg tightly.
"Surprise!"
Charlotte looked down and saw a fair, delicate little girl in a pink princess gown clinging to her leg.
It was Amber!
Charlotte's surprised expression instantly changed to one of joy. "Why are you here, Sweetie?"
Amber replied softly and sweetly, "I came to find Mommy! I didn't want to stay separated from you for too long, so I persuaded Grandpa and Grandma to let me visit! Are you happy to see me? Also, I'll be living with you in Marindale. Once you finish work, we'll return to Juxburg together!"
Charlotte was happy but wished her daughter hadn't come to Marindale.
She didn't want Amber to run across anyone she hated in the past, especially Brian.
She didn't want him to know about her existence.
Of course, her main concern was that she wouldn't be able to care for her daughter with her busy schedule.
Seeing that she didn't answer, Amber asked curiously, "Mommy, do you not want me here?"
Tears welled up in her eyes, and she seemed upset.
Others might fall for her tricks. But Charlotte was all too familiar with her daughter's tricks. She knew it was an act after just one look.
She chuckled and hugged the little girl in her arms. "I want you here! I was wondering what to do if I get too busy with work and don't have time for my precious Sweetie."
Upon hearing this, Amber's tears instantly vanished. She replied happily, "You don't have to worry about that, Mommy! I've got someone to keep me company! I brought Mrs. Jones with me. She'll take care of me and play with me. I won't bother you at all!"
As she stepped aside, Charlotte saw Rose trailing behind her, along with Anna, who stood nearby smiling warmly.
She chuckled. So, everything had been planned out.
"Why didn't any of you tell me this?" she asked with a smile.
Anna replied, "Amber wanted it to be a surprise. So we kept it a secret."
As expected, this was Amber's idea.
Though she felt helpless, they were already at her door, and she couldn't chase them away.
Besides, she couldn't bear to part with her daughter.
"Since you're here, you can stay."
Then, Charlotte scooped Amber up and entered the house.
