"So are you ready lil sis?" Eddie asked, breaking the silence. Why did it seem like someone was dying?
"I think I am."
"Well, I'm sure you'd do just fine," Dad said, his rough voice softened. I nodded.
"Have you found your mate, Darla?" Mom asked me. No, I really didn't want to answer this question again. I didn't want to lie.
"No," I answered in hesitation.
"Are you sure?"
Can she read my thoughts? Can we connect now through the pack link? I doubt so... "Yes mom, why?"
"Nothing, I'll let your dad explain more."
"Listen doll, if you haven't met your mate, then you would do just fine when shifting later. If you have met him, then you'd have to have him with you when shifting later. You see, when you and your mate have met for the first time, you won't be able to be separated from him. Your wolf will always need to be with his wolf. They will depend on each other, whatever it is. That's why if you see your mom and I and your brother and Celina can't be separated; it is because we're bonded."
I listened to everything that Dad told me and tried to remain calm. Then slowly, I asked my dad, "What if I have met him and he wasn't there when I first shift?"
"First, you need to know that shifting is a pain process. If you haven't met your mate, your wolf will know and learn to be independent to survive the process. But if you have met your mate and he wasn't there when you shift for the first time, there'd be chance that...you and your wolf might not survive."
I gasped quietly. It couldn't be that bad would it?
"Oh come on dear, we wouldn't want to scare her," Mom laughed nervously, "I'm sure she'd do just fine. Plus if she had found her mate, she would definitely introduce us to him. Let's send her to the door now, it's almost and she would need to find a suitable place in the woods to get comfortable."
