I look away before he could see how much it still affects me, everything we had shared, everything I had allow myself to hope for. I gulp against the ache in my throat.

“Whatever happened between us yesterday..” the words falters as I press my nails into my palms until the pain steadied me, “let that be our final goodbye.”

Caelum went completely still and once again the silence that followed felt enormous..forcing myself to look back at him, even though my chest was tightening and every part of me wanted to take the words back.

His eyes searches mine but I gave him nothing, “That was the least I could do.”

He stumbles back, hurt, “What the hell do you mean by that?”

forcing the words past the knot in my throat, “You heard me.”

“No,” his voice cracks, “I don’t think I did.”

I force a scoff, though my hands had already begun to shake, “What? You thought I had let you fuck me all through the night, just because,” I said, my tone was filled with fake sarcasm. I made myself sound bored, detached, “the sex was nice, no doubt about that. Besides you don’t need me to touch you anymore, judging from last night.”

I watch him absorb my woeds, watching him realize I was reducing everything we had to something temporary and replaceable, “Now that we’ve ended things on a perfectly nice note, we can both get back to our fucking lives.”

“What in the actual fuck..” anger broke through his disbelief, hot and immediate.,” What the hell, Delilah?”

I refuse to flinch, If I did, he would know

If I looked away, he would see the truth I was trying to bury beneath every vicious word

“Is that really what you think this was?” he demands, “Just some casual fuck?” his voice made the question sound like an accusation, but beneath it was something worse.. a plea for me to deny it.

I gave him nothing,” What else was it supposed to be?”

His mouth fell open, the silence that followed was more painful than anything he could have said.

“This was always going to end, Caelum.” I kept my voice steady by sheer force, ” It was never supposed to last forever.”

“That doesn’t mean..”

“It had an expiration date,” my voice drops, betraying me with its softness, “and apparently, that date is now.”

He stares at me, breathing hard, his hands curling at his sides as though he wanted to reach for me and hated himself for still wanting to.

The lie tasted bitter, I could feel it cutting through me, but I held his gaze anyway

“You got the girl you wanted, didn’t you?“I wanted the words back the instant they left my mouth, they carried too much truth beneath the cruelty.

Too much jealousy and fear that I had only ever been a detour on his way to someone else

I bit the inside of my lip until the pain gave me something else to focus on, my eyes burned.

Don’t cry..not here..not in front of him

He shook his head, letting out a light, agitated laugh that held no humor, “Wow..just bloody fucking wow,” he looks away, turning his back to me as he drags a hand through his hair, the gesture was restless, frustrated..almost desperate.

I rub my palm against my clothes, trying to ground myself. my heart felt as though it were about to give way beneath my ribs, and every breath came shallow and uneven, as if my lungs had forgotten how to work.

When he turns back, the look in his eyes had changed. They were cold, so cold that I shivered at the sight of them.

“You’re right,” he said, the words struck harder than anger would have, his expression remained unreadable, “I’m not sure what I expected, but it’s a good thing you snapped me back to reality.”

And with that he closes the gap between us before I could take another, his hands caught me, firm around my arms, and he pulls my body against his. I barely had time to gasp before his mouth covers mine.

I struggle at first, pushing against his chest and turning my face away, but he held me close without hurting me, his kiss was angry and desperate,, carrying every word neither of us had been able to say, I fought it until the resistance drains out of me, until my hands stops pushing and curls into his shirt instead.

Then I kiss him back, the kiss deepens, messy and breathless, tasting of anger, grief, and everything we had tried to deny.my arm wraps around his neck, pulling him closer even as my heart screams that I should stop. while his tightens around my waist, drawing me against him until there was no space left between us.

For one devastating moment, it felt like we had never broken apart

When we finally pull away, he rests his forehead against mine, his eyes closed as he drew in a deep breath holding on me still firm.

When he opened them, his lips were close to mine again and he ran his tongue over my lower lip, slow enough to make my breath catch, then murmured, “You were right.”

He pulls away slightly, cupping my cheeks as his thumbs brushes over them with a tenderness that felt crueler than anger, “I got the girl I wanted..”

There was no emotion in his voice

My throat tightens as I fought down the tears rising behind it, “Thank you,” he continues, calm and

composed, “You played a huge part in it.”

His thumbs moves once more over my cheeks before his hands fell away, then he steps back, pulling away from me completely.

The sudden absence of him left me cold, and before I could stop myself, my hand lifted, reaching after him, catching myself halfway.

My fingers curls into a fist as I lowers my hand to my side. His expression tightens, but whatever he might have said seemed to die before it reaches his mouth.
