Chapter 408
ROMAN
I knew I shouldn’t be here.
I knew it the second I stopped walking and stayed in the hallway instead of going further away like
I was supposed to.
This wasn’t my place.
Whatever was happening in that room… it was beyond me. Beyond my role. Beyond anything I had
been asked to be part of.
But I couldn’t leave.
I couldn’t just walk away and pretend none of it concerned me.
Because it did.
I didn’t even fully understand why–but it did.
Something about all of this… about Luna Faye, about the way things had been unfolding since morning, about that mark on her wrist–it pulled at me in a way I couldn’t ignore.
So I stayed.
Far enough from the door.
knew better than to get too close. Alpha Alexander would sense me if I crossed that line. I didn’t need to be told that–1 could feel it. The awareness he carried… it wasn’t something you tried to
slip past carelessly.
So I kept my distance.
Just enough not to be noticed.
And relied on something else instead.
My hearing.
It still wasn’t something I was fully used to. Not like the others. Not as natural. Not as sharp
without effort.
But when I focused-
When I really focused-
It came through.

Clearer than I expected.
Voices.
Fragments at first.
Then full sentences.
And what I heard…
It made me go completely still.
“… marked for a ritual..”
My brows pulled together.
“…too late to do anything about it…”
No.
That didn’t sound right.

I leaned slightly–not moving closer, just adjusting where I stood–forcing my focus deeper, filtering out everything else.
Then it came again.
Clear.
“…you can’t see it… the real thing…”
My chest tightened slightly, my mind trying to catch up with what I was hearing.
And then-
“…the one who cast the spell…”
Spell?
I frowned, my attention sharpening even more now.
This wasn’t just about a mark anymore,
It was something else.
Something bigger..
I stayed where I was, barely breathing, listening as the pieces started coming together.
Everything tied together.

Everything connected.
And then-
The words that settled it.
I felt something in me drop.
Not physically.
But enough to make me straighten slightly.
Because I understood enough.
Even if I didn’t understand everything.
Then Faye’s voice played in my head-
“Why would I do that?”
And the answer that followed-
“Because you won’t have a choice.”
Silence filled the space after that, but it didn’t feel empty.
It felt heavy.
I didn’t move.
I couldn’t.
Because now it made sense.
Not completely, but enough.
Someone from Stonevale…
I exhaled slowly, my gaze dropping slightly as the realization settled in fully.
So that was it.
Someone from the Stonevale pack had cast a spell on Luna Faye.
To draw her in.
To make her come to them.

So, I wasn’t imagining things when I saw that what happened to her looked like Jeffery’s mark.

THIRD POV
Faye snapped, her voice slicing through the silence before anyone else could speak again.
“So I have to go to Stonevale to find the witch who did this to me, right?”

There was a sharp edge to it now–no longer confusion alone, but something closer to anger trying to take shape, trying to give her something solid to hold onto in the middle of everything she had just been told.
Her eyes moved between them, as if waiting for someone to correct her–to tell her this was all a misunderstanding, a misinterpretation, anything that made it less real than it sounded.
But no one spoke quickly enough.
That hesitation only made her breathing grow heavier.
Her fingers curled slightly at her sides, tension building in her stance as she took a step forward.
“I’m going to find that witch,” she said, more firmly this time, like she was trying to convince herself as much as them, “and send her to where she belongs.”
Her jaw tightened as she spoke, anger now fully threading through her tone–something she could use instead of fear.
“If they think I’m an easy target,” she continued, her voice dropping just slightly, “they have something coming.”
She held her ground, standing still now, as if daring the situation itself to respond.
Helen spoke first, her voice steady but firm.
“Faye-”
But Faye cut her off immediately.
“No.”
The word landed hard, final in a way that didn’t invite argument.
Her gaze snapped toward Helen, then Alexander, as if making sure both of them under wasn’t about to be talked down from this.
She took a breath, forcing herself to stay controlled even as emotion built beneath her wora “I’m not going to just walk into Stonevale and submit myself into their hands,” she said, her tone tightening with every word, “just because some witch decided to put something on me.”
Her fingers curled slightly again at her sides, frustration and disbelief now mixing into something
