Chapter 411
ALEXANDER
I didn’t go to bed that night.
There was no point.
Faye wouldn’t have slept either.

I saw it in her long before she admitted it–the tension in her body, the way her mind refused to slow down, the way she kept drifting back into her own thoughts, no matter how much she tried to stay present.
So I called for Dr. Adams.
Even that didn’t sit right with me.
But it was better than letting her stay awake and spiral deeper into everything we had just uncovered.
Now the room was quiet.
Too quiet.
And for the first time all day, I was alone with my thoughts.
I stood by the window, looking out into the dark, but not really seeing anything.
Because my mind wasn’t here.
It was on everything Helen had said.
This wasn’t physical.
That much was clear now.
This wasn’t something I could walk into, confront head–on, and end with strength or strategy alone.
There was no opponent standing in front of me.
No clear battlefield.
No predictable outcome.
And that…
That was the problem.
Because if I handled this the wrong way-
If I miscalculated even once-
I wouldn’t just lose control of the situation.
I would lose her.

Forever.

My jaw tightened slightly at that thought, my hands resting against the edge of the table as I forced myself
to think.
There had to be something.
Some angle I hadn’t considered yet.
Some way to approach this without playing directly into whatever trap had already been set.
I exhaled slowly, dragging a hand through my hair as I tried to steady my thoughts, to force them into something useful instead of letting them circle endlessly.
I had to figure something out.
I had to.
Because waiting wasn’t an option.
Not with this.

Not when every second might be pulling her closer to something I couldn’t see yet.
I straightened slightly, my gaze hardening as I pushed away from the table.
Think.
Find a way.
Before it’s too late.
“Alpha.”
Roman’s voice came from behind me.
I turned at the sound of his voice, not expecting to see anyone there.
Roman.
For a second, I just looked at him.
Surprised.
It wasn’t just that he was there–it was the time, the fact that he was still awake. Most of the pack had already settled in for the night, the territory quiet in a way that usually meant nothing was wrong.
But tonight-
Nothing about tonight was normal.
He stepped closer.
I shifted slightly where I was standing in the yard, my attention settling fully on him now. “You’re still up.”

“I couldn’t sleep,” he said.
I didn’t ask why.
I didn’t need to.
After everything that had been said today, I would have been more concerned if he could sleep.
Silence stretched between us for a moment, the kind that wasn’t uncomfortable, just…. heavy with everything that didn’t need to be said out loud.
Then he spoke again.
“What are we going to do?”
I paused at that.
The question wasn’t unexpected.
But the way he said it was.
I turned my head slightly to look at him properly.
“We?” I repeated, a faint smirk touching my expression before I could stop it.
He didn’t shy away from it.
Instead, he held his ground.
“About the Luna,” he clarified. “What are we going to do?”
That made the smirk linger just a second longer–not mocking, just… curious.
He caught that.
Of course he did.
And he didn’t back down.
“I know I’m an outsider,” he added, his voice steady,
even as there was something under it–something
real. “Maybe still not someone you fully trust. Maybe not strong enough to stand where the others stand,
but…”
He hesitated.
Just briefly.
Then-
“I heard everything.”
That made me look at him fully.
“Really?” I asked.

He dropped his gaze slightly, guilt flickering across his expression.
“You can go ahead and punish me,” he said, “for eavesdropping.”
There was no defense in it.
No excuse.
Just acceptance.
“But I needed you to know,” he continued, lifting his head again, “that I’m already part of this.”
I didn’t interrupt.
I let him speak.

“If the Luna’s life is in danger,” he went on, his tone tightening now, “then I’m ready to do anything to help. In whatever way I can.”
A pause.
Then he added-
“Even if I have to give my life for hers.”
That made my brow lift slightly.
I studied him.
Carefully.
“You mean that?” I asked.
He smiled.
“I didn’t have a life,” he said. “Not before I ended up here.”
His voice didn’t waver.
“Whatever I am now… whatever I have now… it’s because of you. Because of her.”
Then, before I could respond-
He moved.
Lowering himself to one knee in front of me.
A deliberate motion.
A pledge.
“I’m yours to command,” he said quietly.
I looked at him.
For a moment, I didn’t react.
Not because I didn’t understand what he was doing.
It was because I hadn’t expected it.
Not like this.
Not from him.
Then I stood.
Closed the distance between us.
And reached out.
“Get up.”
He didn’t hesitate.
He took my hand, and I pulled him back to his feet.
I held his gaze for a second.
Then nodded once.
“I appreciate that,” I said.
And I meant it.
More than I let it show.
“It’s good to have you in my corner.”
His expression shifted slightly at that, something settling.
I looked away then, my gaze lifting toward the sky.
The moon was out.
Full.
Or close enough to it.
And everything about that only made the weight of the situation settle deeper.
Too many things were moving at once.
Too many things were going wrong.
And none of them were slowing down.
