Mischa was walking through the pack, Yeturning to the packhouse after a pup had been born, as she’d been requested to go and do the Luna Blessing by Brent, and even though shit had hit the fan, she’d not be lax in her duties to the actual pack members, so had gone and attended to it, used his computer to log in and document it, done what was part of the Luna’s duties that were now up to Christy.

But she’d found over the past few months, Christy wasn’t called on for Luna Blessings; hadn’t been for almost a solid year, none of the pack’s she-wolves wanted their child to be blessed by Christy since her stint in the cells. So every pup that was born was still being Blessed and documented by Mischa.

She doubted very much that Christy even knew how many pups were being born or that they had been born at all. But this was something she did not ignore; she wasn’t jax in her duty, so if a pack member mind-linked directly to her and asked Mischa for advice, she would go to them at their home or give

advice down the mind-link.

Now, as she walked into the packhouse, she came to a halt as she saw Christy trailing Anthony. He still

looked ticked off to her, and why wouldn’t he when that one announcement he’d made had seen 64

wolves leave the pack over a day and a half?

She stopped walking because she didn’t want him to see her, and if she didn’t move he wouldn’t actually realize she was there. Couldn’t smell her or feel her. It always came as a shock to him to lay eyes on her and not only realize she was there, but likely also suddenly remembered he had another Mate outside of

Christy.

Christy, however, saw her and then stated, “Anthony, I’m sorry, but everything will be fine. I’m going to apologize to the pack, we’ll call a full meeting this evening, and I’ll apologize to them all. I never meant for that to happen. I was just emotional I guess, but…” she grabbed onto him and then stepped in front of him, stopping him from walking.

“You felt it to and were annoyed, how the pack barely acknowledged your announcement of the heir to the pack being on the way. It was disrespectful to both you and I, to our heir, a handful of congratulations. So yes, I lost my temper, a momentary lapse in my composure was all it was.

“I’m the reigning Luna and you are the Alpha and the pack should be happy about this and show it.” she sighed. “And yes, I admit I stated something I shouldn’t have, but I was so excited for the news to be told to the pack, and they didn’t seem to care… you were more than annoyed yourself.”

“Yes, but you don’t say things like that out loud, you may think it but never voice it. Holding one’s tongue at times, all Alphas and Lunas must do this, or there is fallout; which you just learned the hard way.”

“I did.” Christy nodded. “It will not happen again.” She told him and then smiled at him a little, reached out and took his hand, placed it on her belly. “Our heir will be good and strong, it’s a boy I just know it is, and he’s the future of this pack. The future Alpha of Night Whispers.” She smiled up at him now.

She watched Anthony frown deeply and then remove his hand from Christy’s belly. “Best, you only have

girls, and that pup is not the Heir to the pack. Only Mischa can give me a son, and only he can be the Heir to the pack.”

Oh, hell no! Shot through Mischa’s mind as she realized he was, as Paul stated, going to hold her here forever bound to him, never let her go. There was no way in hell she was going to give him a son, not any damned pup at all. She’d made that very clear.

She turned and was gone from the packhouse, didn’t stick around to hear the rest of that conversation,’ Oh, it’s definitely time to go. Laud stated, and they were leaving. if he wanted to be bound to her forever, then so be it. He could have his way, only they’d make sure he’d never have her ever again.

She went right to the garage, grabbed her car keys from the hook and got in it and left that pack. She didn’t even stop to collect her handbag. She had her phone in her pocket and everything she needed was on there. Digital copies of her driver’s license and her digital bank card. She had everything she needed to leave on that phone, so it was all she would take. Nicholas was going to reinvent her anyway, so it didn’t matter that she was leaving everything else behind, it would be useless in a matter of days or weeks.

The gate opened for her as she left, the guard smiled and waved at her like he’d done a million times

before, and she nodded to him in return just like she always did.

She’d told herself she’d know the moment to leave, when it came. That moment was now, hearing him

stating only she could produce an heir to the pack, telling Christy his and her pups would never be the heir

to the pack.

He’d just put a target on her back, afte

all Christy had done to get what she wanted, to fully eclipse her, and take everything from her. All those self-induced heats and all the punishments she’d been dealt out, the heat the Elders had induced into her, they were all for naught now.

Her sheer desperation to be the one to have the firstborn pup to Anthony, which would normally be the heir to the pack, had just all blown up in her face. None of it mattered. That she-wolf could sit in the Luna’s office, reside in the Alpha’s Suite and have all the pups in the world she wanted with Anthony.

He was never going to acknowledge Christy’s pups as heirs to the pack. Christy was going to be utterly fuming when that shock wore off, and then she would be looking to actually get rid of Mischa for good. Because she’d lost the game of fully eclipsing Mischa, when she’d thought she had finally achieved it. She arrived at the Rising Blue Lotus before she even knew she was there, pulled up at the gate and announced herself and a part of her wondered how she’d gotten all the way here, barely even recalled driving down here, on autopilot, she supposed. But here she was safe and sound and that was all that mattered, she thought.

She watched as the gates opened and smiled. She liked the way the white lotus flower separated from the blue moon as the gates parted and how every time they opened and closed, it symbolized the coming together of two packs. Lucinda’s pack and Nicholas’ pack both forever joined together by the uniting of their own mate bond.

Something he’d had to fight for, because he was raised backwards and didn’t understand what a Luna truly

was, but he’d learned and educated himself, and then never waved once in his determination to become a better person. To prove he not only loved his Mate and Luna, but that he always would.

She drove all the way to the packhouse and parked her car out the front. Nick and Lucinda were out there along with his and her unit, and Paul, Carol and Louise. They were all looking at her, and she smiled at them. “Surprise.” She stated, “Not even I knew I was going to leave today. Kind of just happened out of the blue,” she told them.

“You’re still bound to him,” Nick frowned, pointing out her filigree. “I thought you were going to reject him before leaving. That also would be the wise thing to do.”

“Hmm, kind of left after an Oh hell no, moment.” She stated “So,” she shrugged. “I’m still attached to him. It’s also what he wants. Kind of part of the reason I left as I did as well.” She sighed and shook her head as she looked to Paul. “You were right, he’s never going to relinquish me.”

“What exactly made you leave?” Paul asked.

“I saw him talking to Christy, his words were the deciding factor.” She stated, “Her and his pups will never be deemed the heirs to the pack. Only I can produce the heir to the pack… None of Christy’s will sit in the seat of Alpha is what he implied. I didn’t actually stick around to hear the whole conversation.”

“He voiced that out loud,” Nick asked.

“Not only out loud, but in the packhouse foyer for all to hear. Laud and I were, stunned momentarily and then just left before Christy could get past the shock of his words and come after us. That is a death

sentence hanging over our heads.”

“It would be.” Paul agreed.

“Initiation Mischa?” Nick asked.

“No, if I’m felt being severed from the pack, he’ll hunt for me, likely come straight here, so I’m leaving that in place for now. Sort it out only after he’s realized I’m not there, not before. If that’s okay with you and

Lucinda?” she asked.

“It’s fine, Mischa,” Lucinda nodded, “I understand the need. Sometimes Lunas have to do things to keep

themselves safe from the Alpha Mate that they leave. Not all Lunas live happy, loved-up lives, and escape plans need to be made and enacted.”

Mischa nodded “I’m starving. Kind of came on autopilot, so to speak.”
