That was perfect.
Mommy didn't want Quentin bothering them anyway.
They'd stay in their own places.
Annelise's expression remained perfectly calm.
Furious, Larissa resorted to severe threats. "Annelise, let me tell you, if your mom doesn't make up with my uncle and work hard for him, Aunt Iris's boyfriend is going to kill her!"
What?
Annelise looked up in terror, her large eyes slowly welling with tears.
Aunt Iris's boyfriend was Holden, Jordyn's uncle. She had witnessed his cruelty firsthand.
Just a few days ago, Holden had her and Seth expelled from kindergarten, forbidding them from attending school.
Holden had also commandeered the seats at the Aqua Park, trying to drive them out.
He was an incredibly, incredibly bad man!
He wanted to hurt Mommy.
"Waaah..."
Her little heart couldn't handle it, and she burst into tears.
Seeing the threat working, Larissa grabbed Annelise by her small shoulders, squeezing tight as she continued her intimidation.
"That Mr. Lockwood is a cold-blooded killer! He'll have his men stuff your mom into a huge box, throw it in a car, and drag her out to the middle of nowhere. Then they'll take a giant knife—slash, slash! Your mom is going to die a very painful death! Do you want that?"
Waaah...
Poor Mommy!
"No! Don't hurt Mommy!" Annelise wailed loudly.
"Then you better hurry up and tell your mom that you must go home tonight and stay with Uncle Quentin. Tell her she needs to listen to him and do things for him like before. Uncle Quentin will protect her."
"But Quentin Adams is a bad man! He's a hypocrite and he bullies my mommy too!"
This little brat, so tiny but she knew entirely too much.
Larissa glanced toward the door; Celeste would be back any second.
Stomping her feet in panic, she scolded, "Who told you my uncle is a hypocrite?"
At that moment, Demi gasped. "Celeste is back! Stop talking about this or she'll beat us up."
Larissa and Demi practically sprinted back to their private room as if running for their lives.
The food had already been served.
Shelly and Quentin were clinking their glasses, sipping red wine.
"What's wrong with you two? You look terrified," Shelly asked, holding a glowing goblet.
The glass contained imported French red wine that cost twelve thousand dollars a bottle.
The wine was exorbitant.
The clinic's business had been terrible lately, and most of their regular patients had fled. They were barely scraping by with Quentin treating minor ailments like colds and prescribing IV drips every day.
Spending this much money on wine was a massive luxury.
However, they needed to have a good drink while they still had some savings from the money Winifred made during her time at the clinic.
They'd enjoy tonight, because next, they had to invest in the company and face a period of tightening their belts.
Larissa recounted everything she had said to Annelise.
Shelly sneered. "Rats beget rats. The brats that crawled out of Winifred's belly are exactly like her."
