A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 150

So Aurora wasn't just a famous actress—she was part of Iris Morgan's inner circle.

A spike of anxiety hit Winifred, and she instinctively glanced down at Annie.

Her daughter was like a frightened little animal that had been hiding in a dark cave for far too long, terrified of the outside world. Leland had just shined a warm light into that cave, and for the first time, Annie had tentatively peaked her head out, deciding that maybe the world wasn't entirely full of pain and rejection.

And now... this.

Aurora leaned in, her voice dripping with practiced seduction. "I'm heading to a private party. Come with me?"

"I'm busy," Leland replied flatly.

Busy? Aurora glanced around the room. It was just a bunch of parents and toddlers. Surely, they couldn't compare to her.

She was a national sex symbol, a woman men dreamed about. No man in his right mind would turn down a direct invitation from her.

"Oh, come on~" Aurora whined, lightly swaying her hips. "Leland~ Let's go have some fun."

Leland looked over at Winifred.

Winifred met his gaze calmly, fully expecting him to stand up and leave. He was a wealthy, powerful man, and a gorgeous actress was throwing herself at him. Why wouldn't he go? Quentin had abandoned his family for Shelly Hale. It wouldn't surprise her in the least if Leland left them behind for a night of glamour.

Her eyes silently communicated exactly that: 'Go ahead. I'm not surprised.'

Leland's jaw tightened.

Emboldened by his silence, Aurora reached out and boldly grabbed his arm. "Come on, Leland, I've been waiting for you."

Her two assistants chimed in right on cue. "Mr. Lockwood, Aurora is only asking you! Whatever you want, she's willing."

Winifred froze.

What was this? Was he publicly confessing? Or just using her to kill Aurora's delusions? Her cheeks burned hotly.

In the single second it took her to process his words, Leland had already closed the distance between them. Without asking, he gently scooped a stunned, teary-eyed Annie out of Winifred's lap and settled her securely in his arms.

He turned back to Aurora, his expression turning to ice. "Since we bumped into each other, I'll go ahead and clarify my private life right now. I have a partner. If you see me out in the future, kindly keep your distance. Whenever I attend a private gathering, it is always with my family."

At those words, Annie broke into a massive, radiant smile.

Aurora stared at him, utterly dumbfounded, tears pooling in her eyes. "I... I didn't hear that you were taken..."

Leland stared her down without an ounce of pity. "And who exactly are you? Why would I need to report my private life to you?"
