A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 260

On that front, Yvette won hands down.

She had no messy marital history, her reputation was spotless, and she was a blank slate.

The thought of her daughter landing such an incredible catch put Madeleine in a fantastic mood.

"Holden," she asked, noticing the route, "why are we taking the orbital freeway home?"

This wasn't the direct way to the Lockwood Mansion; he was taking a massive detour.

Holden's voice went heavy. "Mom, there's something you need to know. Dad has decided to file for divorce. We're heading to the Civic Registry Office to sign the papers first, and then..."

"What?!" Madeleine's jaw dropped.

She was utterly blindsided.

Roland was unilaterally divorcing her? Without even discussing it?

The disrespect was staggering.

She had been with him since she was twenty-five. She had given him thirty-seven years of her life, sacrificing her youth and middle age, bearing him four children, and standing by him as the invisible woman behind his success. And now, the second she hit rock bottom, he was throwing her away.

"I'm not doing it. I refuse to divorce him!" Madeleine burst into angry tears.

The dark age spots and deep wrinkles on her face contorted with grief.

Iris had had enough. "Could you please think about the family for once? Think about me!" she shrieked.

"Because of your absolute PR nightmare, Lockwood Group's stock has tanked for three days straight! We've lost billions in market value! The whole internet is laughing at us, tearing us apart. If we keep you around, how is the company supposed to survive?"

"And what about me? I've been dragged down with you! Twelve brands dropped my sponsorships, and I had to pay millions in breach-of-contract fees. I'm literally trapped at home doing nothing!"

Stung by the vicious attack, Madeleine refused to back down.

"And who did I do all of this for?!" she yelled back, furious. "If I was only looking out for myself, why would I have risked a murder charge?"

At that moment, Holden pulled the car into a gas station.

An attendant walked up.

"I'm going to step out for a minute," Holden said tightly. "You two figure this out, but keep it civil."

Iris glanced out the window; Holden was nowhere to be seen.

"You're just terrified I'll expose your secrets. Whenever things get real, you instantly change the subject. Listen to me—you need to get rid of Arthur Seward and his family. For good. Winifred was making thinly veiled threats today, which means she's actively investigating. Arthur is a massive liability."

Madeleine knew the danger, but she hesitated.

"His daughter-in-law just had a baby. She's still recovering."

Having never experienced childbirth, Iris couldn't care less.

"Recovering doesn't mean she's dead. She can sit in a car and leave. It's not that hard."

"You..."

"I'm not finished," Iris cut her off coldly. "If it comes down to it, you need to eliminate Arthur entirely. And this time, leave no trace."

Madeleine gasped. "Iris, Arthur is..."

"Shut up!" Iris hissed.
