Her entire worldview shattered. She had never realized a person could cheat, lie, and deceive so effortlessly while simultaneously declaring their 'love'.
She swallowed hard, letting out a bitter laugh. "I'm a divorced woman with two kids, Quentin. I know exactly where I stand. I never expected you to love me, nor did I covet it. All I ever wanted was stability."
"When Grandpa Chester passed away, I was pregnant with quadruplets. I barely survived. I was bleeding, in agonizing pain, with a severe head injury. I desperately needed a safe place to recover. Carrying four babies is incredibly difficult. Ultimately... I lost two of them."
Tears slipped down her cheeks. The memory of it was still a suffocating agony.
"I only have Seth and Annie left. Because of their dangerously low birth weights, they struggled so much to grow. I needed a stable environment to raise them."
"So, I endured. I stayed strong. I swallowed my pride and worked myself to the bone, waking up before dawn and exhausting myself every single day for you."
"I treat over a hundred patients daily with holistic therapies. I prescribe herbal medicine for dozens more. I pull in sixty thousand dollars a month for your clinic. The house and the car bought with my blood, sweat, and tears are in your name. I support your parents. I take care of your nieces."
"You spend the money I earn, drive the car I bought, and chauffeur your mistress around to have a good time."
"And I never said a word. I genuinely wanted you to be happy."
"But today, you abandoned me for my enemies. You joined forces with that snake, Iris Morgan. You stood by her side as her accomplice and helped her hurt me. My children and I don't even have the most basic, cheapest form of stability anymore!"
Tears drenched her face. She raised her hand and viciously wiped them away. Her damp hand curled into a tight fist as she glared at him with lethal intensity. "From now on, I am entirely done with you."
Usually as soft as cotton, her sudden, fierce explosion clearly terrified him. His brows knitted together in panic, and he launched into a desperate apology.
"I'm so sorry! I failed you. I didn't take good care of you and the kids."
"I was confused! I got drunk a while back and accidentally slept with Shelly, and then... I got caught up in the lust."
His agonizing wail pierced her ears. He had clearly never fathomed she would actually leave him.
Winifred gazed out at the night sky.
It made sense. For the past three years, he had completely controlled her.
After her grandfather's funeral, she had followed him north. They had no house and lived in a chaotic, rundown neighborhood. To protect her unborn babies, he stepped up to play the role of their 'father'. His nieces started calling her 'Aunt'.
When he found out about her past with Holden Lockwood, he acted completely repulsed by her, yet she still stayed with him, working endlessly as 'family'.
She even worked at the clinic on the day she gave birth. Avoiding the hospital, they delivered the babies themselves. She still remembered the excruciating pain of giving birth to Annie—she thought she was going to die and passed out on the spot.
