Preston glanced at the family gathered near the banquet hall doors and scoffed.
"So what if they look like a happy family? It's a pathetic show to put on!"
"Holden, you have parents, a lover, and a kid too."
"Your Iris is a million times better than your ex-wife, and your daughter is chubby and healthy."
He turned back and slung an arm around Holden to comfort him.
"There's no reason to let your ex-wife get under your skin."
"So what if Winifred gave Leland two kids?"
"The fact that they're only bringing it to light now just proves the main Lockwood family never accepted her. She had to sneak around with Leland the whole time."
"At the end of the day, Winifred is just an ordinary woman, a nobody in elite circles."
"Even if she's finally riding her kids' coattails into the Lockwood family today, she still can't hold a candle to Iris."
"Iris is the most talked-about star out there right now."
"Even while taking a break at home, she dominates the internet."
"Iris has the solid backing of her family. Look at this recent venture—the Morgan family just threw five billion into Iris-Adams Biopharma without batting an eye."
"Could Winifred ever pull that off? She could dig up her ancestors' graves begging for help and still wouldn't have a dime to her name."
"Besides, Iris has a wonderful personality. She's kind, and everyone who meets her loves her. She's not a vicious snake like Winifred—the kind of woman who'd stoop so low as to try and kill your mother."
Holden stood rigidly, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Preston patted his shoulder, continuing his pep talk.
"There's no point being angry. You don't need to care that your ex-wife had two kids."
"If you want biological children of your own, go home and get busy with Iris tonight. You'll have one on the way by next month."
"A baby born to Iris would be a gift to the world, a true gem. Kids born from a mediocre womb like your ex-wife's can't even compare."
Holden abruptly turned and walked away.
"Hey! Where are you going?" Preston jumped up and ran after him.
