If Winifred had to fight Quentin for the money and ended up pissing off her future sister-in-law in the process, Winifred would take all the blame. Sharon, as the benevolent older sister, would maintain a flawless relationship with the new bride, ensuring her kids could stay and enjoy the perks of their successful uncle.
Winifred, of course, had no idea she was the subject of such intense scheming.
She was swamped at the clinic until 1 PM. Exhausted, she rubbed her aching arms and lay down on the breakroom cot to rest. Administering complex acupuncture sessions required immense focus, and she was drained.
Celeste sent her a video of the twins splashing in a pool with Jayce. She had booked a private villa at a hot spring resort for them that morning. Seeing them enjoy a luxurious, relaxing weekend put her mind completely at ease.
She slept until 3 PM.
Waking up, she washed her face, touched up her makeup, and changed clothes. Grabbing her medical kit, she left the clinic and hailed a cab on the street. She headed east, toward the prestigious Empyrean Hotel.
Today was the day the affluent Sutton family of Kingsbridge married off their youngest daughter, Yvonne Sutton. The wedding was scheduled for this evening.
Upon arriving, she immediately sought out the elder Mrs. Sutton, Nelly. Winifred was her privately contracted health consultant. They had signed a two-year holistic care agreement, and she was already a year and nine months into the contract. In just three months, their professional relationship would officially conclude.
It was still early. The elderly Suttons were seated in the VIP lounge, receiving greetings from early arrivals stepping off the flower-strewn red carpet.
Nelly suffered from lung cancer and hadn't made a public appearance in two years. Winifred timed her approach perfectly.
"Mrs. Sutton, Mr. Sutton," she greeted with a respectful bow.
"Dr. Shultz! You made it. Come over here, dear."
Winifred approached and gently checked her vitals.
"How am I doing?"
"Your condition is perfectly stable. Just keep your spirits up and take your herbal supplements on time."
The old lady beamed, immensely pleased. She eagerly recounted her medical miracle to the surrounding guests. She was seventy-one. Two years ago, the hospital gave her three months to live and sent her to hospice to wait for the end.
One of her nurses had mentioned a brilliant holistic doctor. Desperate, Nelly had asked the nurse to contact Dr. Shultz.
It was practically magic. After the very first session, the crushing weight on her chest lifted, and her violent coughing subsided. Clinging to her savior, she immediately signed a service agreement. As long as she drew breath, she would be Winifred's most loyal client.
"This is Iris Morgan, a major star, and my Yvonne's best friend and matchmaker. And this is her boyfriend, the heir to the Lockwood family in Seaport City. Come, come, you three should exchange contacts."
Nelly practically pushed Winifred's hand forward.
Iris recognized her instantly.
Just as Winifred's hatred for this woman ran bone-deep, Iris's anxiety regarding Winifred was practically etched into her DNA. Even with a mere glance, Iris knew exactly who she was.
Right in front of Winifred, Iris took a deliberate step closer to Holden, pressing affectionately against his side.
"Dr. Shultz. So nice to meet you."
She confidently reached out and shook Winifred's hand.
Holden Lockwood followed suit, extending his hand as well. He was still wearing his signature black baseball cap, dressed head-to-toe in dark clothes.
